This position is part of the Department of Energy's Office of Science - Biological Systems Science Division. As a Biologist (Biophysics), you will be serving as a Program Manager on advising and determining scientific focus and strategic direction of a basic research portfolio in bioimaging/biophysics. The position requires proficiency in basic science program management, including planning, justification, budget formulation, implementation, and evaluation.

Qualifications
BASIC REQUIREMENT:
Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

In addition to meeting the education requirement above, candidates must possess the specialized experience below.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
For GS-14: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-13 in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as meeting 2 of 3 of the following:
1. Supporting management on basic research in plant biology, microbial biology, biophysics, or bioimaging globally.
2. Coordinating research programs in plant biology, microbial biology, bioimaging, and biophysics.
3. Supporting groups in basic scientific research activities involving laboratories, universities, or private institutions.
For GS-15: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-14 in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as meeting ALL of the following:
1. Managing basic research in plant biology, microbial biology, biophysics or bioimaging science globally.
2. Planning research programs in plant biology, microbial biology, biophysics or bioimaging science.
3. Guiding groups in basic scientific research activities involving laboratories, universities, or private institutions.
"Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
