You will serve as a ELECTRICAL FIRE ALARM MECHANIC in the Public Works Department of NAVFAC SOUTHWEST.
Duties
You will troubleshoot systems and equipment (e.g., passive capacitance, ultrasonic and infra-red fire sensing equipment, annunciator systems, sensor monitoring equipment, commercial alarm systems) to verify operational working condition.
You will operate instruments or equipment (e.g., transistor tester, oscilloscope, logic compactor, laptop computer, digital and meter-type vom, alarm eppom programmers) for alarm systems and special purpose test sets.
You will review and approve final work products and plans developed by junior electrical employees to achieve desired results.
You will maintain or modify functional subsystems integrated within fire protection alarm systems.
You will use equipment manuals containing component and system operation instructions, theory of operations, schematics, wiring diagrams, and parts lists to complete work assignments.
You will select and use tools to install and repair fire alarms or electronic systems, components, and devices.
Requirements
- The position may require ability to obtain licenses for the operation of Fork Lift, High Lift (JLG), and/or Construction equipment, upon notification.
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification within six months of appointment.
- You will be required to adapt present knowledge and skills to new technology changes through progressive on-the-job and formal training required for this position.
- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
Qualifications

1) Maintaining various alarm systems to include; Pyrotronics, Gamewell, and Fire Control Instruments; 2) Programming electronic control panels and automatic power transfer switches; 3) ability to troubleshoot repair, align, modify, install, calibrate and maintain a multiple integrated system, and 4) Inspecting and testing control panels, ensuring proper operability, maintenance and correcting deficiencies. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
