This position is located in the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Operational Support Office of Investigative Technology (ST). This position(s) primary purpose is to provide Fiscal Services and support to the organization programs. Incumbent protects government funds, obligates, expends, collects or controls funds with significant monetary values.

Duties

As a Fiscal Specialist, your typical work assignments may include: Assists with the formulation, establishment, and monitoring of fiscal year budgets, plans, and cost estimates for each program manager. Audits budgets and financial records, with potential impact on government operations. Conducts criminal or non-criminal investigations to prevent compromised outcomes. Reviews billing documents, examines transactions for compliance with regulations. Studies budgets and anticipates problems, corrections or identifies potential risks.

Applicants applying for the GS-09 must meet one of the following requirements: A. Have at least one full year of qualifying specialized experience that is at least equivalent in difficulty and complexity to work performed at the GS-07 grade level. Specialized experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Qualifying experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Processing financial transactions in accordance with budget rules, regulations, procedures; 2) Recording financial data and pulling reports from automated accounting systems; 3) Applying analytical methods and techniques to identify financial and/or auditing related questions and problems. OR B. Education: Have a Master's or equivalent graduate degree -or- two (2) full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree; or LL.B. or J.D., if related. OR C. Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. Applicants applying for the GS-11 must meet one of the following requirements: A. Have at least one full year of qualifying specialized experience that is at least equivalent in difficulty and complexity to work performed at the GS-09 grade level. Specialized experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Qualifying experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Resolving financial discrepancies during reconciliation processes; 2) Analyzing financial reports to support audit programs; 3) Providing enhancement recommendations for accounting systems to resolve transaction discrepancies.OR B. Education: Have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree -or- three (3) full academic years of graduate level education leading to such a degree; or LL.M., if related. OR C. Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
