This position will be assigned to Child and Youth Programs and is not guaranteed a set number of hours but can be scheduled 0 - 40 hours per week.

Duties
Sets up food service counters, steam tables, dining room tables, and side service stands with hot and cold foods. Serves food cafeteria-style directly or serves tables family-style by placing dishes of food on tables and replenishing as necessary. Prepares tables and service stands by cleaning and setting up necessary condiments, linens, flatware, and other articles.
Prepares fruits and vegetables for cooking and serving by washing, peeling, scraping and dicing. Cuts and shreds lettuce, slices tomatoes, cuts lemons, prepares butter chips, and opens cans. Makes beverages. Portions out food by placing uniform amounts in small serving dishes. Applies portion control methods by using scales and measuring devices to apportion individual items according to standardized recipes. Assembles, labels, and arranges complete recipe items for use by cooks.
Cleans kitchen and dining area equipment. Washes dishes, pots, pans, coffee urns, glasses, and flatware. Operates mechanical dishwasher. Clears and cleans dining tables. Sweeps, mops and waxes floors. Disposes of food wastes and trash. Uses appropriate sanitation techniques when preparing formulas or tube feedings.
Moves heavy garbage cans and assists in unloading supply trucks and storing heavy supplies.
Conducts final checks of food items to ensure completeness, correct temperature, and to verify food items are appropriate for allergies and prescribed diet. Verifies food substitutes for children with allergies to menu items. Prepares alternative food items for identified dietary needs of patrons. Uses computer to record and retrieve menu, recipe, and inventory data and to produce printouts.
Incumbent is responsible for independently completing assigned work after initial oral or written instructions when changes or new assignments are made. Uses judgment in recognizing work objectives and in planning and organizing those objectives. Refers questions on new work situations to supervisor. Supervisor spot checks to see that work is done on time and according to instructions.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements
- This position requires satisfactory completion of pre-employment checks in accordance with Air Force and DoD policy, and a Childcare Tier 1 background investigation with favorable results.
- This position requires the incumbent to be able to obtain, maintain, and provide evidence of current immunizations, including annual influenza vaccinations, and be free of all communicable diseases.
- This position requires the incumbent to complete assigned training, to include Food Handlers Certification, within specified time from date hire or assignment to the position.
- This position has a physical lifting requirement which requires the incumbent to complete a favorable pre-employment physical.
- To be considered for this position, the applicant must be a U.S. Citizen or a Legal U.S. Resident for a minimum of 3 years and must reside in/around the area as noted in the Job Opportunity Announcement.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.
Qualifying Experience: Must be able to follow simple oral and/or written instructions; be able to use hand tools for cleaning, and operate simple machines. Must be skilled in doing tasks with several steps and must use judgment in sequencing tasks. Ability to assist in preparation of meals and serving food. Must have knowledge of sanitation standards in handling and serving food and for cleaning work area and equipment. Applicant must have experience or training in food serving and food preparation. Must be physically able to frequently lift objects weighing up to 40 pounds, and occasionally over 40 pounds. Must be able to continuously stand, walk, stoop, reach, push, pull and bend for long periods of time.

Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.
FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
