Duties

Plans, schedules, directs, and evaluates the facility training of the assigned ATC personnel. Identifies training needs and ensures that needed training is accomplished. Serves as Air Traffic Control Specialist in a non-approach control terminal at the Sparta/Fort McCoy Airport. Controls vehicular traffic on the aircraft movement areas. Identifies problem areas that adversely affect the capability of air traffic control services and implements established operational plans and procedures to ensure continuity of required services during unusual or emergency situations. Ensures planned work assignments, sets priorities and assigned work including rotation of controllers through positions of operation.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
  • Must be a graduate of an Air Traffic Control school or comparable formal Air Traffic Control schooling.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Air Traffic Control Specialist Certificate and/or Control Tower Operator Certificate.
  • Must meet and maintain the physical standards set forth in Civil Service Handbook X-118 and AR 40-501 (Class IV Standards) prior to appointment.
  • A maximum age of 36 years is established for the first time entry into air traffic control positions covered by Public Law 92-297 and IAW with DoD Civilian Personnel Manual 1400.25-M, Subchapter 331.6.3.
  • In accordance with Army Regulation 1-13, Release of Personnel, incumbent's position has been designated as an Emergency position.
  • Should there be a general dismissal authorization due to adverse weather conditions or other emergency situation (specified by organizational criteria) incumbent will remain on the job.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service which includes experience: 1) Advising pilots of traffic patterns, weather/airfield conditions. 2) Giving clearance for landing/take off in a military or civilian air traffic control facility. In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirement above, applicants must also be a graduate of a DoD component or FAA approved formal Air Traffic Controller school and possess an Air Traffic Control Specialist (ATCS) (Radar) OR Control Tower Operator (CTO) certification for the GS-11.
