About the Position: This is a Social Services Assistant Position located at Ft. Drum, New York.
This is a Direct Hire Solicitation.
Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service.
Duties
Serve as a Social Services Assistant in a clinical setting on a highly specialized multidisciplinary treatment team dealing with mental health issues.
Perform direct patient support: to include assisting clinical providers to access appropriate patient referrals and resources.
Assist in the development of criteria for standards of care and outcomes
Operate computer to input data, monitor reports, maintain connectivity with case managers, assure follow-up plans are carried out, and query information appropriate to the soldier's care.
Schedule meetings with other appropriate team members as deemed necessary by mental health and/or appropriate providers.
Facilitate psycho-educational and/or support groups as needed
Requirements
- Child Care Checks: This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
- Incumbent may be required to perform call duties; work overtime to include weekends and federal holidays, out of cycle, or unscheduled training or on an emergency basis.
- Cont'd: The work will require the incumbent to work evenings/nights; rotating shifts, extended hours or other schedules common to hospital operations.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A Personnel Security Investigation may be required.
- Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- Travel Required: Up to 5% Business Travel Required
- Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
- This is an inclement weather position. The incumbent is expected to make every attempt to report for duty on time and/or remain on duty during inclement weather conditions.
- Physical Exam is required.
Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience in processing referrals of alleged domestic abuse, reviewing system of records to determine patterns of abuse, co-facilitating psycho-educational groups, maintaining patient files, and experience in a program of direct social welfare services that require the application of program policy and operations knowledge in providing social welfare services and/or assisting social workers.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Education: One and a half years of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, Child and Family Welfare, Counseling, Family and Community Services, Behavioral Science, Human Development, Sociology, and Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
