This position is located in Management Directorate, Office of Security & Integrity, Personnel Division.
As a Government Information Specialist, you will perform a wide variety of duties relative to managing Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and Privacy Act (PA) requests received by the Office of Security and Integrity.
Duties
Leads extensive and time sensitive searches for agency records with all levels of USCIS, other Department of Homeland Security (DHS) components, and governmental agencies.
Partners with other agencies as to secure access to, review, analyze records for release under the FOIA, consult with subject matter experts throughout the agency and DHS, coordinate efforts with like offices across and federal government.
Discloses or withhold sagency records to the public that are subject to the FOIA and Privacy Act.
Drafts impact statements and provides recommendations on these issues, as they nexus with the disclosure of agency records and the function of the FOIA program, for executive and managerial action and concurrence.
Executes vision of the PSD FOIA program and establishes action plans to ensure successful accomplishments of mission related tasks meeting quality and timeliness requirements.
Acts as a technical authority for the most difficult and complex legal issues involving the disclosure of agency records.
Qualifications
The qualifications for this position must be met by 11:59 PM (Eastern Time) on 12/30/2024.
Current Federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the lower grade or equivalent grade band in the Federal service. The Time-in-Grade requirement must be met by 11:59 PM (Eastern Time) on 12/30/2024.
GS-13: You qualify at the GS-13 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience, which is equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the federal government, that equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. You must have experience performing the following duties:
Analyzing written Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests for information, performing research, and preparing written replies;
Assisting in the development and recommendation of FOIA policies and procedures to allow the disclosure of information within the rule of law, Acts, and regulations;
Advising staff on policies governing the disclosure of confidential information;
Redacting records and documents in response to FOIA requests.
