This position is located at the US Mint, Manufacturing Directorate - West Point - Plant Engineering Division. As a General Engineer, you will be applying knowledge of several branches of Engineering, e.g., Industrial, Mechanical, Electrical, and knowledge of a wide range of engineering principles, practices and techniques, judgment and originality to unique problems and controversial areas.
Duties
As a General Engineer, you will:
Interpret policy, procedures/methodology for systemic analysis of specially designated problem areas affecting assigned programs or initiatives.
Develop and justify practical, reliable, cost-effective recommendations, concepts and methodology to support decision review to achieve optimum solutions.
Conduct engineering studies, feasibility studies, cost benefit analyses, and develop scopes of work for contracts.
When the outcome of such studies lead to projects or programs being contracted outside the Mint, incumbent may serve as the equipment/ technical subject-matter expert, or may consult with other engineers on staff, in the drafting of contracts/ requisitions/awarding matrices etc.
Serve as a Contracting Officers Representative (COR) and/or Contracting Officers Technical Representative (COTR) as required.
Qualifications

The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. Specialized experience:
Specialized experience for the GS-12 is one year of experience at the GS-11 level or equivalent in other public or private sectors, that is directly related to the position as listed in this announcement and which has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience is defined as
- demonstrated professional general engineering experience performing project management with experience of building systems and/or manufacturing processes.
Education
Education Requirements:
The basic requirements for this position state that you must meet one (1) of the following educational requirements (you MUST include a copy of your transcripts to ensure you receive credit - unofficial transcripts are acceptable but if selected an official transcript will be required).
(A) - Degree: professional electrical engineering. To be acceptable, the curriculum must: (1) be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statistics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.
OR
(B) - Combination of education and experience--college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following: professional registration, written test, specified academic courses, or related curriculum.
