This position is organizationally aligned to the Veteran Experience Office at Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital (578) - a Level 1a Complexity VHA Facility.
Duties
Responsible for coordinating Fisher House accommodations for a large complex VA facility that serves as a VISN, regional and national referral center for Veterans and associated family members and/or caregivers traveling for medical care.
Facilitates all financial operations and managerial processes involved with the Fisher House
Collaborates with heads of other units, facility leadership, VA Central Office, and Fisher House Foundation to negotiate, decide, on and/or coordinate program goals and initiatives.
Reports Fisher House program operations and status directly to the Veteran Experience Officer, Fisher House Foundation and VA Central office.
Utilizes resources to effectively and efficiently maintain services to achieve VA facility, Fisher House Foundation, and VHA program goals, the needs of the Fisher House Foundation, VHA, and Fisher House guests.
Accounts for house guests, volunteers, and employees ; providing morning updates to leadership and directly to the National Fisher House Program as requested on house usage and availability status daily.
Serves as a primary medical facility representative and community partner liaison to the community at large regarding Fisher House matters.
Represents the Fisher House at conferences and community events with special interest groups, and other agencies.
Serves as the facility subject matter expert on the Fisher House program and provides education to internal and external stakeholders as requested.
Coordinates with the Center for Development and Civic Engagement to manage donations from public or private donors of expendable and non-expendable/durable items, securing appropriate thank you letters or responses from the VA facility designee for these contributions.
Maintains communication with all appropriate services to ensure the quality of support provided by staff meets both VHA and VA Fisher House Foundation quality standards .
Identifies guest issues, problems, or conditions and seeks alternative solutions based on evaluation of applicable rules, regulations and procedures.
Develops and manages electronic consult/referral process, responds to consults in a timely manner and collaborates with local information and clinical support agencies; providing staff training when applicable.
Oversees the orientation of new Fisher House guests, employees, volunteers & contractors; maintaining a thorough knowledge of the operation of all medical facility outpatient clinics and in-patient units

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/23/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-12 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-11. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.
GS-12 Grade Requirements:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-11 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
Direct housing management experience work in being responsible for administering, supervising, daily facility operations and maintenance; financial management; supervision of housekeeping and other maintenance staff; recruitment, training, and scheduling of volunteers; guest relations; and marketing to include procurement of services, cost management and financial planning, assignments and utilization, occupancy changes and periodic inspections, scheduled and special requirement surveys, new construction and improvements, control of furnishings and equipment, master planning, and management-tenant relations.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements: Work is generally sedentary; however, it requires a fair amount of standing, walking, walking up and down steps and bending. The housing Manager may be required to approximately life 25-50 pounds.
