Duties
NIST's Physical Measurement Laboratory (PML) sets the definitive U.S. standards for nearly every kind of measurement employed in commerce and research, sometimes across more than 20 orders of magnitude. This position is in PML's Nanoscale Device Characterization Division, whose mission is to develop and advance the measurement and knowledge infrastructure to characterize nano- and atom-scale engineered materials and solid-state devices for innovation in information processing, sensing, and future quantum technologies. If hired as the Administrative Specialist for the Nanoscale Device Characterization Division, you will:
Contribute to the management and processing of cost allocations, ensuring responsible use of funds and timely payments.
Provide guidance, advice, analytical oversight and recommendations on administrative and financial matters.
Contribute to training staff on various administrative procedures.
Make recommendations to resolve financial problems with the division and submit documentation to correct errors.
Conceive, plan, and conduct administrative assignments using the most current policies and procedures.
Advise management and stakeholders on daily operations, awards status, disruptions in service, and human resources procedures in areas such as staffing, classification, pay, leave and performance.

Qualifications
BASIC REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 level (ZA-I at NIST). Specialized experience is defined as:
experience providing a variety of administrative support utilizing agency policies and procedures and
experience analyzing financial and solvency data.
OR
Master's or equivalent graduate degree
OR
2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree
OR
LL.B. or J.D., if related
OR
Equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
