You will serve as a SPORTS SPECIALIST in the FAMILY READINESS DEPARTMENT (N9), FLEET READINESS DIVISION (N92) of JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR HICKMAN. The salary range for positions filled at the GS-09 is $62,517 to $81,272. The salary range for positions filled at the GS-11 is $75,640 to $98,330. A Cost-of-Living-Allowance (COLA) of 8.90% will be added to the stated salary. COLA is subject to change at any time.

Duties

You will layout sports fields in accordance with size regulations for a specific type of sport. You will assist in the overall operation, management, personnel supervision, and administration of the Fitness Facility to ensure facility standards are met. You will plan and implement sports and fitness programs to meet the needs and interest of the community and gymnasium patrons. You will plan and conduct health promotion seminars and workshops on a variety of health promotion topics (e.g., physical fitness and sports, hypertension, nutrition, injury prevention). You will advise patrons and sports officials on sports and fitness programs or activities offered.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance while employed in the subject position. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Selectee must have and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position requires the incumbent to occasionally work on nights or weekends for sports games, matches, tournaments, etc.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain CPR, Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and First Aid certifications from or in accordance with the American Heart Association (AHA) within 60 days of employment and maintain current certification.

Qualifications

FOR THE GS-11 GRADE LEVEL: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Providing program goals, budget and resource management policies and procedures, sports industry trends, market analysis and customer needs to develop an annual program budget.; 2) Using sports management principles, concepts, rules, coaching, instruction, and safety and protection to manage a well-balanced and successful sports program; 3) Providing program development, the physical and psychological factors in individual and team sports and the nature, purpose, and organization of recreational and competitive individual and team sports activities to plan and organize intramural, extramural and inter-service sports activities; 4) Applying verbal and written communication methods and techniques to coordinate activities and use of facilities, write sports rules and bylaws, establish, and maintain business relationships with fitness and sports professionals; 5) Developing marketing materials for individual and team sports activities. FOR THE GS-09 GRADE LEVEL: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Assisting with program goals, budget and resource management policies and procedures, sports industry trends, market analysis and customer need to develop an annual program budget; 2) Assisting with planning and organizing various intramural, extramural and inter-service sport activities; 3) Applying verbal and written communication methods and techniques to coordinate sport activities and use of facilities. Education

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

FOR THE GS-11 GRADE LEVEL:

Have successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.
OR
Have successfully completed three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree.
OR
Have successfully completed an LL.M. degree that is related to the position being filled.
OR
Have a combination of experience and education that equates to one year of experience. Percentage of education plus percentage of experience must equal 100%.

FOR THE GS-09 GRADE LEVEL:

Have successfully completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree.
OR
Have successfully completed two full years of progressively higher graduate level education leading to a master's degree.
OR
Have obtained an LL.B. or J.D. that is related to the position being filled.
OR
Have a combination of experience and education that equates to one year of experience. Percentage of education plus percentage of experience must equal 100%.
