About the Position: Serves as a Shift Supervisor for the Security Guard force. Incumbent will exercise direct supervision over subordinate Security Guards and Lead Security Guards.
Duties
Responsible for performing a diverse range of protective responsibilities over Federal property, employees, and visitors.
Plan and coordinate the activities of a guard force shift, to ensure the maintenance of physical security standards; enforcement of federal state, and local laws and official orders and regulations.
Ensure the guard force understands their role in protection of government and personal property, access of personnel and vehicles to the installation, supporting the implementation of emergency plans, and patrolling of restricted access areas.
Develop training plans based on approved training courses and regulatory requirements and supervise necessary training for guard personnel in the use of weapons, protection against espionage, sabotage, and other organized subversive actions.
Perform supervisory and administrative duties relating to the security guard force; plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, set and adjust short-term priorities, and prepare schedules for completion of work.
Conduct training on the use of weapons and other necessary equipment.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
- This position requires incumbent to maintain clearance certification for access and exposure to law enforcement sensitive information and operation of NCIC terminals.
- This position requires incumbent to wear the Department of Army Security Guard (DASG) uniform IAW AR 190-56
- This position requires incumbent to obtain and maintain applicable certifications in operating various electronic equipment and sensors
- Must obtain initial and annual certification under Individual Reliability Program per AR 190-56.
- Incumbent must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons.
- Shift work is required, and Overtime may be required.
- Must successfully complete initial security guard training within 90 days of employment.
- Must successfully complete CPR certification and First Aid training within 60 days of employment.
- May be required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment, and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton.
- Must pass entry level and annual re-certification of standard Army physical fitness/agility test.
- Must possess and maintain a valid state drivers license.
- This position is covered by the 1998 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 (18 U.S.C. 922).
- A pre-employment physical and drug test is required IAW AR 600-85.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience such as work with a Federal, State, municipal, local, or private protective organization performing and overseeing the protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; or maintaining order and protecting life; lead experience making daily work assignments, ensuring work assignments are completed within a timely manner. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
