Teach cultural education programs in virtual and local area classrooms or homeschool equivalent. This position will work under the supervision of the Deputy Chief of Interpretation that manages park educational programming. Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will work from approximately 11.5 months, and you will be in a non-pay status for the remainder of the year.

Duties

The incumbent will conduct basic research of topics for the purpose of providing cultural and historical education programs. Spends time modifying, developing, and delivering curriculum-based education programs to schools and educational groups throughout the local area. Leads on-site cold war educational program for pre-K through 8th grade students or other educational groups. Performs general Interpretive Services which includes providing frontline visitor contact information at the front desk, providing education programming, and conducting guided interpretive tours. Responsible for preparation of print and digital materials for education programs, including writing, editing, and updating materials. Ensures on-the-job safety and health of visitors and students, VIPs, and coworkers in accordance with park safety plans. Research and develop curriculum and tour outlines under the direction of the GS11-Park Ranger (I) to meet the needs of intended audiences. Great customer service is demanded in this job.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-12/26/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. To qualify for this position at the GS-05 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least three (3) years of general experience one (1) of which was equivalent to at least the GS-04 level. General experience is progressively responsible experience one (1) year of which was equivalent to at least GS-4), that demonstrates the ability to: Analyze problems to identify significant factors, gather pertinent data, and recognize solutions; Plan and organize work; and communicate effectively orally and in writing. This experience may have been gained in administrative, professional, technical, investigative, or other responsible work. Experience in substantive and relevant secretarial, clerical, or other responsible work may be qualifying as long as it you provide evidence of the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) necessary to perform the duties of this position. Experience of a general clerical nature (typing, filing, routine procedural processing, maintaining records, or other nonspecialized tasks) is not creditable. Trades or crafts experience appropriate to the position to be filled may be creditable for some positions. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least four (4) years of education above high school (120 semester hour or 180 quarter hours) leading to a bachelor's degree. IMPORTANT - PLEASE NOTE: If you are using education to qualify you must document your course work and/or degree completed in your resume or other application materials you submit. You must submit a copy of your transcripts that identifies each course of college or university, semester or quarter hours earned, grade received, and date completed. If you are qualifying based on education and you do not submit specific course work information as described previously, your application will be rated not qualified for consideration. (A copy of your official transcripts will be required before entrance on duty, if selected). You must include transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. For example, I have two (2) years of general experience and 45 semester hours of qualifying education. The applicant meets 67 percent of the required experience and 38 percent of the required education. You must include transcripts. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
