This position is located in the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Justice Programs (OJP), Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS), Planning and Operations, Communications Unit.

Duties

Working with the supervisor, integrates the organization's strategic plan, mission, vision, and values into the team's goals and work products, clearly defining project assignments, milestones, and deadlines. Serves as a coach and facilitator to resolve challenges and foster collaboration within the team. Approves emergency leave, medical leave, and other types of leave as delegated. Collaborates with supervisor, other editors, authors, and other reviewers to refine and rewrite content, ensuring clarity and accessibility of complex information, especially for non-technical audiences such as policymakers, practitioners, media, and the public. Provides recommendations for alternative graphic and textual presentations to enhance understanding and engagement. Establishes and maintains an efficient workflow for document preparation, review, and approval, collaborating with authors, team members and contractors, and reviewers and stakeholders to promote smooth production of materials. Conducts comprehensive reviews of all written materials for technical accuracy, clarity, and adherence to organization standards. Provides expert guidance to managers, analysts, and staff on technical and statistical presentations. Works with supervisor and organization digital communications manager to coordinate the dissemination of organization publications through various channels to maximize reach and impact.

Qualifications

Basic Entry Requirements: Education: Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Must have included a total of 15 semester hours in an appropriate scientific, technical, or social science field(s), and at least one course above the introductory level in the field(s) covered by the position. For technical manuals and specifications writers or editors, the equivalent of 15 semester hours may have been gained through vocational or educational training above the high school level at a public, private, or Armed Forces school. OR Experience: Experience that required substantial subject-matter or technical knowledge of the field. This experience must have demonstrated the ability to acquire and present technical information through independent reading, interviews with subject-matter specialists, observation of tests and experiments, interpretation of blueprints or diagrams, or other appropriate methods. Such experience may have been acquired as a writer or editor of technical reports, articles, manuals, or specifications. Specialized Experience: Applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level. Specialized experience is experience which is in or related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Examples of specialized experience include: Applying technical writing and editing principles, methods, and practices, in order to support statistical and technical presentations. Producing and coordinating the development of clear, accurate, and well-organized publications and technical reports for various formats, including digital for publication or release and/or congressional reporting. Applying both qualitative and quantitative methods to evaluate and improve team processes, effectiveness, and work products ensuring findings are interpreted and communicated accurately in written form.
