This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Interviews and conducts psychosocial assessments to establish veteran's treatment needs, presenting problems, and DSM V diagnoses. The Social Worker is responsible for developing the treatment plan and setting measurable time limited and achievable treatment goals with the veteran/family. Treatment planning including the collaboration with interdisciplinary teams such as Transition Care Management, Addiction Treatment staff, Psychiatry (inpatient/outpatient), Homeless Program, Physicians and Vet Centers. Educating the veteran and/or caregiver of the available services and assisting them in establishing the appropriate referrals based on the veteran's preference or that of their surrogate decision-maker. Understands the intimidation of bureaucracy and will act as an advocate when it serves the best interest of the veteran/family. Interprets and explains VA treatment and benefit programs. When appropriate and feasible, social worker will educate and encourage the veteran/family to advocate on own behalf, thus fostering a sense of independence and empowerment. Assesses high risk factors, acuity and need for intense outpatient services. Social worker has access to multiple resource directories in addition to previously developed resources to meet the demands of a crisis. The incumbent has a primary responsibility for providing education on advance health care planning, facilitates psycho-educational and support groups on a variety of topics for veteran and their families. Provides individual, couples, family, and group psychotherapy and case management interventions used in the treatment of veterans with mental health disorders such as depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder. Provides the veterans and their caregivers with ongoing supportive counseling. Demonstrates an ability to expand clinical knowledge in the profession; provide consultation and guidance to colleagues at the Facility, within the VISN, and nationally; role model effective social work practice skills; Teaches and provides orientation to less experienced Social Workers; and develop innovations in practice interventions. Establishes and maintains positive working relationships with employees, volunteers, consumers and stakeholders within the VA and outside community agencies. Develops and implements methods for measuring effectiveness of social work practice and services in specialty areas, utilizing outcome evaluations to improve treatment services. Demonstrates the ability to design changes based on empirical findings. Collaborates in the performance improvement processes and comply with performance measures as required by the VA for their specific population and/or program. Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. The Eastern Oklahoma VA Health Care System Behavioral Medicine Service is looking to recruit (1) Social Worker to be assigned to the Women's Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program (BHIP). The incumbent will provide psychotherapy for general mental health conditions in an outpatient setting. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education: You must have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. License: Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. Exception. VHA may waive the licensure or certification requirement for persons who are otherwise qualified, pending completion of state prerequisites for licensure/certification examinations. The clinical component of this position provides direct services to patients and their families through casework.
