This position is located in the Chinle Service Unit, Pinon Health Center, Dental Department, Pinon, Arizona. The primary purpose of this position is to assist the Dental Program by performing receptionist, record keeping duties, and providing miscellaneous support to the Dental Department.
Duties
Receives telephone calls and visitors to the Dental Clinica and answers inquiries or requests. Takes messages for staff or direct callers concerned with urgent matters to the most appropriate person.
Interviews patient to obtain pertinent information including demographic information, checks the medical record for eligibility to receive services and instructs patients on procedures to receive services. Assists patients in updating the medical history information and provides assistance in completing all other necessary forms.
Provides translation of medical and dental terms for non-English speaking patients and makes appointments for non-English speaking patients.
Schedule appointments, ensures patients receive appointment slips and give special instructions as needed and updates the appointment book.
Reviews incoming correspondence and based upon subject matter routes to appropriate person, maintains incoming/outgoing correspondence and documents to enable follow-up or progress.
Review dental encounter forms for completion, verifies patient demographics, diagnosis and procedure codes.
Data enters dental information on a daily basis.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level GS-04 in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: possesses understanding of medical and dental terminology; proficient with the use of computers to provide office support; practices confidentiality and protects health information; fluency in Navajo language.
SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION:
GS-05: Successfully completed education 4 years above high school.
This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school.
SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR:
Navajo Language fluency including the ability to translate from Navajo to English vice versa.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).

This position has no education requirement. However if you are substitiuting eudcation for experience, you are strongly encouraged to submit a copy of your transcripts or a list of your courses including titles, credit hours completed, and grades.
