The primary purpose of this position is to Serves as a professional guidance counselor or providing general admissions and program eligibility counseling to both military and civilian personnel seeking admission to the Graduate School of Engineering and Management.

Duties

Provides academic counseling and assessment of prospective student's academic records leading to a decision to admit or reject the student's application. Accurately use legacy/new computer systems and databases to research applicant's academic and required personal information, enters required information in support of admission and enrollment processes, student services activities, student program tracking and management. Performs a variety of duties related to the Graduate Schools admission's responsibilities and duties and advises applicants and AFIT staff members of opportunities available.

Qualifications

Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Individual Occupational Requirements for General Education and Training Series, 1701 and the Group Coverage Qualifications Standard for Professional and Scientific Positions. Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement. BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT: Degree: that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position. NOTE: YOU MUST SUBMIT COPIES OF YOUR OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS. OR Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described above. NOTE: YOU MUST SUBMIT COPIES OF YOUR OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-09, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience include experience in providing general admissions and program eligibility counseling to those seeking admission and performing academic assessments and review of records for the purpose of admission or denial of admission. NOTE: Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement. OR EDUCATION: at least 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a PhD or a PhD or equivalent graduate degree. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, college or university and must have given the knowledge, skills, and abilities to accomplish the duties of the position. NOTE: YOU MUST SUBMIT COPIES OF YOUR OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS. OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: a combination of experience and education described above. **Only graduate education beyond the second year may be combined with experience to qualify. NOTE: YOU MUST SUBMIT COPIES OF YOUR OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-­grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-09 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Bachelor's degree in education or related area with an admission experience, along with knowledge of the American collegiate systems, including university organization requirements for degrees, accreditation, and grading systems. 2. Skilled at performing numerical calculations needed to compute academic grade point averages and compare different academic programs 3. Ability to employ analytical techniques and interpret data, and logically analyze problems, procedures, and processes to make maximum use of available resources. 4. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Verbal and writing skills to prepare publicity, recruitment, and other presentations/briefings. 5. Ability to use a variety of computer programs needed for word processing, spreadsheet preparation, and development of electronic presentations. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
