This position is located in Region 6, on the Fremont-Winema National Forest.
This position is located on a Forest Service unit where the incumbent performs functions related to timber sale preparation. Prepares, develops, and executes a wide variety of diverse and complex timber cruises and sampling methods to estimate quality and quantity of timber.

Prepares, develops, and executes a wide variety of diverse and complex timber cruises and sampling methods to estimate quality and quantity of timber.
Determines sample cruise design, selects sampling methods, completes timber sale or stewardship cruises to estimate volume by species, assembles statistical data, and summarizes results
Evaluates logging problems and determines most feasible logging method, considering tractor, skyline or helicopter.
Manages conventional types of logging systems appraisals, completes timber sale appraisals to determine value, and prepares timber sale or stewardship contracts. Is proficient in and utilizes the Timber Information Manager (TIM) computer system
Coordinates with engineering personnel to assure that location of logging roads and landings are correct.
Gathers or directs the gathering of data for logging system analysis such as road access, skyline profiles, and landing location suitability
Coordinates with wildlife, fisheries, hydrology and soils to ensure mitigation required in the EA is met
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience Requirement:
For the GS0462-08: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the Federal Service. Qualifying specialized experience includes meeting one or more of the following: Drafted timber cruise plans, performing lay out of timber sale boundaries; Summarized cruise and marking data for inclusion in reports describing timber quantity, resources, topographic features and timber marking guidelines; Prepared timber sale appraisals and contracts.
OR Two full years (36 semester/54 quarter hours) of successfully completed graduate level education or master's degree if the coursework is directly related to the work of the position (such as Forestry, Natural Resource management, Forest Engineering);
OR Combination of graduate level education in Forestry, Natural Resource management, Forest Engineering (in excess of 18 semester/27 quarter hours) and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university.
For the GS-09: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-08 level in the Federal Service. Qualifying specialized experience includes meeting one or more of the following: Data for logging system analysis such as road access, skyline profiles, and landing location suitability. Performing on-the-ground timber sale and cutting unit boundary layout considering such factors as accessibility, loggability, stream protection, visual management, and impacts on other resources utilizing direction provided in the approved Environment Assessment (EA). Coordinating with wildlife, fisheries, hydrology, and soils to ensure mitigation required in the EA is met.
OR Two full years (36 semester/54 quarter hours) of successfully completed graduate level education or master's degree if the coursework is directly related to the work of the position (such as forestry, range management, agriculture); Forestry, Natural Resource management, Forest engineering
OR combinations of graduate level education that is directly related to the position (in excess of 18 semester/27 quarter hours) and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university

TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
