This position is located at the Blanchard Springs Caverns Recreation Area and Visitor Information Center, Sylamore Ranger District, Ozark-St. Francis National Forest. The mission is to provide information and interpretive services to visitors concerning the natural and historic features of the areas of interest on the unit which assigned.

Duties
Duties listed below are at the full performance level (GS-07).
Conducts tours during periods of extremely high visitor use or when regular guide is not available.
Assists supervisor in planning, preparing, and presenting training programs for seasonal and regular guides.
Assists supervisor in planning, coordinating and leading special tours for large groups or special interest groups.
Assists in providing information of a general and technical nature to visiting reporters or media people to assist them in developing stories about Blanchard Springs Caverns.
Provides technical and administrative supervision to subordinate employees.
Performs supervisory duties 25% or more of the time.
Develops tour schedules for the guides in the caverns.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
- Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service or exempt.
- Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
- Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served.
- Per Public Law 104-134 all Federal employees are required to have federal payments made by direct deposit to their financial institution.

- Must possess or be able to obtain the appropriate driver’s license to operate required equipment or vehicles.

- This is a drug testing designated position. You will be subject to pre-employment and random drug testing. Appointment is based on a negative result. This announcement constitutes 30 days advance notice
- Subject to one-year supervisory/managerial probationary period (unless prior service is creditable).
- New USDA supervisors must successfully complete all components of the required new supervisory training program before the end of their probationary period.
- Must possess OR obtain a valid commercial driver’s license within 90 days of entry on duty. Must maintain a valid commercial driver's license.

Specialized Experience Requirement:
GS-06: (1) One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 level. Examples of specialized experience include: Planning and presenting guided tours to present natural resources information to visitors, students or other groups; serving as a tour guide and maintaining control of the group in hazardous areas; providing information to visiting media and information to be used to inform the public about recreation opportunities; OR planning the work to be accomplished by the unit and performing administrative and human resources management functions for the unit.
OR
One (1) full year (18 semester hours) of graduate level coursework that is directly related to the work of the position; such as: forestry, range management, agriculture, geology, or recreation.
OR
A combination of experience and education as described which together meet the requirements of the position.
GS-07: One year equivalent to at least the GS-06 grade level. Examples of specialized experience include: Develop and prepare work schedules for cavern tour operations; assist in training tour guides on leading interpretative tours; planning and presenting guided tours to present natural resources information to visitors, students or other groups; serving as a tour guide and maintaining control of the group in hazardous areas; providing information to visiting media and information to be used to inform the public about recreation opportunities; or planning the work to be accomplished by the unit and performing administrative and human resources management functions for the unit.
OR
One (1) full year (18 semester hours) of graduate level coursework that is directly related to the work of the position; such as: forestry, range management, agriculture, geology, or recreation.
OR
A combination of experience and education as described which together meet the requirements of the position.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
