This position is located in the Alaska Region, Region 10 of the Forest Service. The incumbent has primary responsibilities for recreation maintenance, administrative facilities maintenance, and field camp maintenance and management. Duties

Maintains recreation sites and areas in accordance with maintenance and operating plans. Using gasoline or diesel powered equipment such as backhoes, forklift, man lift, flat bed, weed eaters, and chainsaws. Selects equipment settings needed for operation, such as gears, power settings, operating speed, etc., and avoids damaging shrubs, trees, crops, other property (inclusive of public property) while operating equipment. Operates the water systems at a campground, including certification and regular water quality testing for compliance with state standards. Repairs underground water and sewer pipes, flushes out man-holes, cuts, threads and assembles piping for water, gas and fuel oil. Mixes concrete and places and spreads it in forms. Finishes concrete with float and trowel, mixes mortar and patches or makes minor repairs to existing masonry structures.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.
  • Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
  • Successful completion of one year probationary period, unless previously served.
  • Per Public Law 104-134 all Federal employees are required to have federal payments made by direct deposit to their financial institution.

  • Must possess or be able to obtain the appropriate driver’s license to operate required equipment or vehicles.
