The position resides in the Columbia VA Health Care System (Columbia VAHCS) and reports directly to the Prevention & Management of Disruptive Behavior Program (PMDB) Manager, aligned to the Workplace Violence Prevention Program. As the assistant PMDB facility coordinator the training specialist, along with the PMDB Program Manager, will have reporting responsibilities to the facility Program Manager of the Workplace Violence Prevention Program (WVPP).
Duties
Major Duties
Program Implementation and Coordination
Effective communication of the Workplace Violence Prevention Program, including presenting at new employee orientation, attending partnership meetings or staff meetings to publicize offerings accomplishments
Communicates with officials within the agency to ensure the educational opportunities and efforts are promoted with respect to current and emerging plans
Coordinates with service lines to develop organizational, educational and training plans related to Prevention and Management of Disruptive Behavior (PMDB) and Workplace Behavioral Risk Assessment (WBRA)
Responsible for conducting WBRA training
Inputs and analyzes data and formulate specific training plans, including ongoing refresher training, based off the findings of the WBRA
Advisory and consultative services
Incumbent provides assistance, consultation, and guidance to employees at Columbia VA Health Care System (Columbia VAHCS) regarding WVPP
Provides advice and assistance in the resolution of problems and issues regarding the WVPP by gathering data and monitor the effectiveness of the program
Policy analysis
Evaluates new or proposed policy changes concerning the prevention program to assure compliance with regulations and compatibility with agency mission and responsibilities
Analyzes segments of policy and specialized program areas and makes recommendations for new policy or changes in existing policy
Provides guidance andadvice on the implementation of educational programs, projects and / or activities, and onthe problems and issues encountered within those activities
Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/26/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-9 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-7. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- education or a subject area related to the position to be filled.

Specialized Experience (for positions above GS-5): Experience that demonstrated a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include:
Teaching or instructing in an adult education program, secondary school, college, military installation, or industrial establishment in the appropriate field(s).
Supervising or administering a training program.
Development or review of training/course materials, aids, devices, etc., and evaluation of training results.
Work in the occupation or subject-matter field of the position to be filled that required training or instructing others on a regular basis
In addition to the above IOR requirement, you must also meet the specialized experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-7 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Teaching or instructing in an adult education program, secondary school, college, military installation, or industrial establishment in the appropriate field(s).- Supervising or administering a training program.- Development or review of training/course materials, aids, devices, etc., and evaluation of training results.- Work in the occupation or subject-matter field of the position to be filled that required training or instructing others on a regular basis..

Physical Requirements and Work Environment: The work requires and recurring physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking, bending, and other similar activities. Employees engage in such exertion when teaching, demostrating, or performing techniques to apprehend or detain a person, The work will require regularly and repetitively lifing and carring heavy objects of 50 pounds or more.
