This position is located in Acadia National Park, in the Buildings and Utilities Division. The typical seasonal period for this position is May thru November, but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: May 2025

Duties

This is an open continuous vacancy announcement. Applicants will be referred periodically throughout the announcement period. The first cut-off date is 11:59 pm (EST), January 17, 2025. Operates gasoline or diesel powered vehicles with gross vehicle weight rating of 26,001 lbs. or more. May also operate pickups, stake and dump trucks. Responsible for loading and unloading vehicles seeing that cargo is enclosed while enroute to destination. Uses equipment such as front end loader, loader/backhoe, or fork lift to load truck. Must be able to operate vehicle on narrow, winding roads in campgrounds and through narrow streets in town with heavy visitor traffic. Assists with maintenance and repair of equipment, and leads work of lower graded employees at times. Operates small equipment and hand tools such as chain saws, chipper, backpack blowers, shovels and rakes. Performs general maintenance work such as repairing picnic tables, erecting signs, repairing fence, cutting vegetation, or cleaning ditch. Area Information- Bar Harbor: Acadia National Park in Bar Harbor, Maine, serves as the duty station. Acadia National Park is located 50 miles southeast of Bangor, Maine, and 240 miles northeast of Boston, Massachusetts. Acadia National Park protects a landscape of rare scenic beauty. Acadia's mountains are the highest rocky headlands on the Atlantic shore of the United States, and the vistas from these mountaintops encompass forested woodlands, shimmering lakes, quiet marshes, bold rocky shores, and coastal islands. Surrounding the park on all sides, the ocean strongly influences the park's character. Visitation exceeds two million visitors annually, with the highest visitation occurring in July and August. Area Information- Winter Harbor: Acadia National Park in Winter Harbor, Maine serves as the duty station. Acadia National Park is located in Bar Harbor, Maine. It is 50 miles southeast of Bangor, Maine, and 240 miles northeast of Boston, Massachusetts. The Schoodic Peninsula is about an hour drive from Bar Harbor, Maine. Acadia National Park protects a landscape of rare scenic beauty. Acadia's mountains are the highest rocky headlands on the Atlantic shore of the United States, and the vistas from these mountaintops encompass forested woodlands, shimmering lakes, quiet marshes, bold rocky shores, and coastal islands. The ocean strongly influences the park's character. Visitation exceeds two million visitors annually, with the highest visitation occurring in July and August. The Schoodic Peninsula is the only part of Acadia National Park found on the mainland, and experiences less visitation than Bar Harbor, Maine. The peninsula contains numerous hiking trails, biking paths, a scenic loop road, and the iconic Schoodic Point. The Schoodic Peninsula is home to the Schoodic Education and Research Center (SERC), the research partner of Acadia National Park.

(RELATED TO MOBILE EQUIPMENT OPERATION) ABILITY TO DRIVE SAFELY ABILITY TO OPERATE SAFELY (NON-MOTOR VEHICLES) RELIABILITY AND DEPENDABILITY AS A MOTOR VEHICLE OPERATOR If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT factor above is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration. You must meet level 2 on the screen out factor/element and an average of level 2 on all factors/elements. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT): Experience with operating motor vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of more than 26,000 pounds and up to 32,000 pounds for hauling, dumping and stock piling materials; routes are prescribed; loads are loaded and secured before transporting; perform light maintenance on all vehicles operated (e.g., monitoring fluid levels, checking tire pressures); work is closely monitored and reviewed upon completion. You must possess and maintain a current Class B or higher Commercial Driver's License prior to entrance on duty. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.
