About the Position: This position is with the U.S Army Sustainment Command, 404TH Army Field Support Brigade, Logistics Readiness Center, Transportation Division, located in JBLM, WA.
Duties
Inspect vehicle loads, ensuring proper certification and security.
Operate scales to weigh vehicles, calculate axle weights, and weigh pallets.
Use Rough Terrain Cargo Handlers (RTCHs) and forklifts to move containers/equipment.
Load vehicles on rail cars, ensure tie-downs, and adjust air load plans.
Drive vehicles up to 10,000 lbs. and conduct convoy spot checks.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 70 lbs.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
- The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs.
- This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a Forklift Operator Certificate.
- This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain Rough Terrain Cargo Handler License within 1 year from the date of employment.
- This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain Hazardous Material Handling License, Container Inspection, and Air Load Planner Certification within 1 year from the date of employment.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Fork Lift Operator without more than normal supervision. Perform common Forklift Operator duties such as inspecting vehicle loads for certification, operating forklifts to transport materials, and applying hazardous placards to containers. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Your application will be further evaluated to determine if you meet the best qualified cut-off for referral to the selecting official.

Physical Effort: More effort than described at grade 5 is required to turn the forklift truck since it is heavier and is usually driven over rough terrain. The rough terrain causes a greater vibration of the forklift trucks which requires greater physical endurance to withstand the strain.
Working Conditions: Working conditions are the same as described at grade 5 except that the operator usually works outside in all kinds of weather and is exposed to dust and dirt.
