This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the Department of Defense to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: Serves as project leader with responsibility for planning, coordinating, and carrying out environmental investigations, studies, and design, using both in-house and contracted resources.
Duties
Serve as project leader with responsibility for planning, coordinating, and carrying out environmental investigations, studies, and design, using both in-house and contracted resources.
Plan, coordinate and execute environmental conditions surveys related to various agencies and military programs, including State and Federal regulators, installation management and real estate.
Plan and coordinate investigations required to characterize and determine the horizontal and vertical extent of contamination for a number of waste sites. Investigations include both soil and groundwater explorations.
Coordinate the development of final remedial action plans and the acceptance of these plans with applicable state and federal regulatory agencies.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Safe work practices are an integral part of the position. Incumbent is required to know, comply with, and promote prescribed safety rules and regulations.
- Must be able to maintain a motor vehicle license. Operates an automobile or light truck to accomplish assigned duties.
- The incumbent must participate in a medical surveillance program and must be able to wear and use personal protective equipment including, but not limited to, air purifying respirators, protective clothing, etc.
- The incumbent must successfully undergo and pass a USACE approved HTRW physical or provide other documentation which verifies that they are physically and emotionally able to work in hazardous environments utilizing personal protective equipment.
- This position requires the incumbent to possess and maintain a valid Driver's license.
- This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain Government Credit Card.

Basic Requirement for Geologist (GS-1350 Series)
A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in geology, plus 20 additional semester hours in any combination of mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological science, structural, chemical, civil, mining or petroleum engineering, computer science, planetary geology, comparative planetology, geophysics, meteorology, hydrology, oceanography, physical geography, marine geology, and cartography.

Combination of Education and Experience: Course work as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.(Note: Acceptable experience may have been gained through geological field or laboratory work that provided a means of obtaining professional knowledge of the theory and application of the principles of geology and closely related sciences, e.g., geophysics, geochemistry, or hydrology. Such work generally must have involved making close observations, taking samples, handling various types of instruments and equipment, assembling geologic data from source materials, and analyzing and reporting findings orally and in writing. In some situations, professional scientific experience in other fields may be accepted in part as professional geological experience. Such experience must have been preceded by appropriate education in geology or by professional geological experience, and must have contributed directly and significantly to the applicant's professional geological competence. To receive credit for geological experience obtained in positions that are not full-time professional geological positions, the applicant is responsible for indicating clearly the actual time or percentage of time devoted to geologic duties within such positions, and for giving adequate descriptions of the geologic functions.)
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 which includes includes experience planning and executing investigations required to characterize and determine the horizontal and vertical extent of contamination for a number of waste sites. Education
