You will serve as a NUCLEAR ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS INSPECTOR (SHIPS) LEADER in the Nuclear Inspection Division of the Quality Assurance Office NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will ensure that needed plans, materials, and tools are available. You will check inspections while in progress and when finished. You will answer questions of supervisors on overall inspection operations and problems. You will perform electronic, electrical, and electro-mechanical inspections, pre-arrival and material condition assessment inspections. You will perform receipt inspection, pre-use inspection and marking verification of naval nuclear material ensuring proper material control and traceability is maintained. You will lead inspectors on a regular and recurring basis during the performance of their duties. You will maintain records of inspections performed, results of these inspections and corrective action taken in accordance with local directives. You will perform surveillances of ongoing or completed work to ensure compliance with all applicable directives.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • You will be required to climb ladders and scaffolding.
  • You will be required to distinguish between colors and shades of colors.
  • You will be required to lift/carry up to 44 pounds in weight.
  • You will be required to meet the physical and training requirements to become a qualified radiation worker.

Qualifications

Experience performing electronic, electrical and electro-mechanical inspections, pre-arrival and material condition assessment inspections, in-process, product, pre-test, test inspections, certification and acceptance of completed work reviews on nuclear reactor plant, refueling, and overhaul work; Experience ensuring proper material control and traceability is maintained and independently initiating and authorizing rejection of workmanship, components, materials, and procedures that do not meet specifications: Experience performing receipt inspection, pre-use inspection and marking verification of naval nuclear material; Experience performing surveillance of ongoing or completed work to ensure compliance with all applicable directives; Experience authorizing rejection of workmanship, components, materials, and procedures that do not meet specifications; Experience inspecting work products and determining work sequence for inspections to ensure work products are within acceptable standards, specifications, or requirements; Experience checking for compliance with accepted trade practices and making determinations to accept or reject work products.
