This position is on the Willamette National Forest at Westfir OR. Incumbent will perform duties involved in the upkeep of buildings, grounds, and related structures. Duties

Maintain facilities, grounds, and/or structures to keep them clean, safe, and in required physical and/or operational condition. Use knowledge of various crafts and trades to perform work involving minor maintenance and repair of buildings, exterior structures, grounds, and related fixtures and utilities such as carpentry, painting, plumbing, and roofing. Perform water system maintenance including monitoring leak location, testing wells, pumps, leak repair, and adding line replacements. Use a variety of power tools in the accomplishment of duties including drills, saws, pumps, generators, sanders, grinders, spray painters, acetylene and propane torches and arc welders, etc. Perform basic painting tasks by preparing surfaces, cleaning brushes and equipment, mixing and thinning paints and applying prime and finish coats to surfaces. These responsibilities are for the full performance level of WG-07.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.
  • Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
  • Successful completion of one year probationary period, unless previously served.

In order to qualify, you must meet the eligibility and qualifications requirements as defined below by the closing date of the announcement. ABILITY TO PERFORM: Applicants will be evaluated on their ability to perform the duties of a WG-6 or WG-7 Maintenance Worker rather than length of experience. Eligibility will be determined by the relevance, scope and quality of all experience and training, regardless of where or how acquired. Applicants will be ranked and rated based on their knowledge of the job elements identified in this announcement. - Ability to do the work of a WG-4749-7 Maintenance Worker without more than normal supervision - Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, repair, etc. - Technical practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) - Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment - Ability to interpret instructions, specification, etc. (other than blueprinting reading) - Knowledge of materials Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
