These positions serve as a Deputy to the Forest Supervisor with responsibility for the management, protection, and development of the forest resources on the National Forest. Duty stations for positions filled through this announcement are located at a Forest Service office. Final determination of the duty location will be made at the time of the job offer. Duties

Duties are reflected at the GS-13 level. Direct the formulation and execution of comprehensive plans to protect natural resources. Accomplish work through direction, coordination, and oversight to subordinate supervisors, team leaders, group coordinators, committee chairs or comparable personnel. Develop performance standards and evaluate work performance of immediate subordinates and subordinate supervisors. Formulate and/or implement strategies to capitalize on opportunities, mitigate potential problems, or resolve complex issues affecting an organization. Maintain relationships with external domestic groups that are affected by an organization's policies and/or program activities. Take initiative to organize a workload, balancing the interests and needs of clients and readjusting/adapting the workload and priorities to unforeseen demands and emergencies. Resolve employee complaints, effect minor disciplinary measures, and recommend action in more serious cases. Performs supervisory duties more than 25% of the time, including establishing and communicating guidelines and performance requirements to employees, conducting formal performance reviews, and establishing production or quality standards.

Requirements

  • Subject to one-year supervisory probationary period (unless prior service is creditable). New USDA supervisors must successfully complete all components of the required new supervisory training program before the end of their probationary period.

Provide course descriptions as necessary. Specialized Experience Requirement: For the GS-13: Applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level. Specialized experience is defined as two or more of the following: Providing counsel to higher organizational levels concerning natural resource program issues and their current and anticipated effects; and/or Exercising program responsibilities that included one or more of the following: program development, planning, budgeting, or identifying workforce and organizational needs to establish and meet priorities; and/or Contacting local, county, and state representatives, civic groups, cooperators, permittees, members of the general public, or industry to discuss projects/issues/concerns. Work Experience: Your resume must clearly document the following for each block of work experience; the beginning day, month and year the work assignment started and ended; the hours worked per week; position title, and series and grade if applicable; and description of duties performed. This information must be provided for each permanent, temporary or seasonal appointment/work assignment or volunteer work and should be clearly documented as a separate block of time. TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
