This position is located in the DEA, Miami, FL (SFL4). The purpose of this position is to serve as ALD of a forensic field laboratory.

Duties

As a your typical work assignments may include: Directs, coordinates, and oversees work through subordinate supervisors. Advises staff regarding policies, procedures, and directives of higher level management or headquarters. Responsible for supervising all aspects of the laboratory's quality assurance program to include proficiency testing. May serve as, or manage, the laboratory's Quality Assurance Manager who provides direct oversight and management of the laboratory's quality system.. Provides key advice to the Laboratory Director's in formulating policy to meet goals and objectives of the laboratory. Maintains liaison with counterparts in federal, state and local laboratories and interacts with Assistant Special Agents in Charge of DEA, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and U.S. Customs and Border Protection offices, as well as officials in other federal, state, and local agencies regarding forensic science matters and law enforcement needs.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the required qualification requirements described below by the closing date of the announcement. If you are qualifying based on education or if there are mandatory education requirements listed below, you MUST submit a copy of your college transcripts with your application. Basic Requirements: Applicants must meet ONE of the following qualification requirements: (A). Degree: physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics. OR (B). Combination of education and experience -- course work equivalent to a major as shown in A above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Minimum Qualifications: In addition to meeting the basic requirements above, applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 Federal grade level in performing a full range of duties to include managing a laboratory system quality assurance program; developing policies, programs and objectives for forensic science services; and overseeing administrative areas, including financial/operating plan development, data system management and personnel management. For a GS-15 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-14, The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
