The Facilities Operations & Services Division, Facilities Services Group, Alterations Working Group Branch is responsible for day-to-day operation and maintenance of the Pentagon, housing approximately 25,000 Federal employees assigned to 14 agencies of the Department of Defense. Tenants include Cabinet level officers, heads of agencies, commissions and ranking leaders of the Army, Navy, Marines and Air Force, responsible for planning and directing our nation's defense programs and operations.

As a MAINTENANCE MECHANIC LEADER, WL-4749-10, typical work assignments under normal supervision may include the following duties and responsibilities, but are not limited to:
Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot, repair and install a wide range of utility systems and equipment to include air-conditioning and refrigeration systems, water supply systems, sewage disposal systems, gas lines and other similar facility support systems.
Determines cause of defects and malfunctions on assigned utility systems and equipment such as Variable Frequency Drives, Fan Powered Induction Units, Air Handler Units, Heat Exchangers, backflow prevention devices, condenser units, sprinkler systems, sewage ejector pits and 3 phase motors.
Interpret and apply blueprints, schematics, technical manuals, NFPA codes for repairs and installations of mechanical systems and equipment.
Replaces piping, valves, sump pumps and bathroom fixtures.
Requirements

Qualifications
You may qualify at the WL-10 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement:
Have the ability to perform the most difficult and complex Maintenance Mechanic Leader tasks including operating, repairing, and maintaining buildings and building support systems including HVAC, plumbing, electrical and structural systems; interpreting mechanical, electrical and structural drawings and blueprints; applying techniques for masonry, carpentry, painting, glazing, roofing, and door systems repair; troubleshooting to determine the extent of the repairs required; and rebuilding component parts of industrial equipment.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
