This position is located in Resource Stewardship and Science, in the Resource Stewardship and Science Division. The purpose of the position is to perform a wide variety of complex biological science technical support functions.

Duties
The major duties of the Biological Science Technician include, but are not limited to, the following:
Serves as a team leader for the NCR Invasive Plant Management Team (IPMT) working on non-native plant management and habitat restoration involving the use of manual removal, mechanical removal, biological control, and pesticide control.
Handles details regarding vehicle care, pesticides, spray equipment, chainsaws, fieldwork documentation and data integrity, as well as planning, scheduling, and implementing activities.
Identifies non-native species of the Mid-Atlantic Region while leading crew to implement and prioritize control based on ecological principles.
Inventories, maintains, and leads/supervises the appropriate use of invasive plant management field equipment such as large trucks and trailers, vehicle mounted spray units, backpack sprayers, chainsaws, and brush saws.
Collects, analyzes, and summarizes field data related to invasive plant management work.
Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level.
Qualifications

Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. Minimum Qualifications GS-7
To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: 1) assisting a field crew team member for invasive plant control projects in remote natural settings or urban parks; identifying target invasive plant species from desirable native plant species; handling and applying herbicides AND assisting with maintenance of equipment used for vegetation control. You must include hours per week worked.

EDUCATION: Successful completion of one full year of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's or equivalent graduate degree, if directly related to the position. Related degrees may include biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture, or mathematics. You must include transcripts.

COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Equivalent combination of experience and education that, together, equal 100% of the qualification standards listed above when combined. You must include transcripts.
Minimum Qualifications GS-8
To qualify for this position at the GS-08 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: 1) participating as a field crew team member for invasive plant control projects in remote natural settings or urban parks; 2) identifying target invasive plant species from desirable native plant species; 3) handling and applying herbicides; 4) researching and compiling botany inventory data; 5) leading maintenance and assisting with repairs of equipment used for vegetations control. You must include hours per week worked.

Minimum Qualifications GS-9
To qualify for this position at the GS-09 grade level, you must possess of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-08 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: 1) leading and conducting a field crew through invasive plant control projects in remote natural settings; 2) identifying target invasive plant species from desirable native plant species; 3) collecting invasive plant control data and records according to standard protocols; leading the processing of spatial data collected by program staff; 4)leading maintenance and repairs of all equipment used for vegetation control AND knowledge of technical methods and procedures of biological resource practices with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and the Endangered Species Act. You must include hours per week worked.
