The position is located at Coatesville VA Medical Center, Painting Section, Facilities Engineering Service. The Maintenance Worker is an integral part of the Paint Section of the Facilities Engineering Service. Incumbent performs maintenance and repair of: Architectural and mechanical components of buildings requiring the use of a variety of trades and practices associated with the following occupations: plastering, carpentry, and painting to maintain the facility.

Duties

Major Duties: Prepares wall surfaces for the installation of furniture tracks, secures wall hangings, bathroom hardware, exam room fixtures and window treatments. Touchup work is done with brushes, rollers, and other related methods, skills, and techniques such as cutting-in techniques and dip and overflow methods. Maintenance and repairs to office furniture. Installing modular furniture, standard curtain rods, patient privacy curtain tracks, and traverse rods. Installing paper towel, soap and toilet tissue dispensers and repairing them as needed. Installing, replacing, and servicing locks and keys on furniture and equipment supplied by Interior Design. Maintains the aesthetic appearance of interiors in all buildings and recommends replacement of unserviceable furnishings as the need arises. Maintains the aesthetic appearance of interiors in all buildings and recommends replacement of unserviceable furnishings as the need arises Work Schedule: Full time Monday-Friday 7:00 am-3:30 pm Position Description Title/PD#: Maintenance Worker/PD02157A Physical Requirements: In performing daily tasks, physical effort and stamina is required in walking, stooping, kneeling, working with hands over head or in close quarters and in strained positions, lifting and using different muscles in different positions. The incumbent works from ladders, scaffolding and hydraulic work platforms. Requires good vision (with or without glasses) and should have good hearing (aid permitted). They frequently handle, lift, carry, and setup parts and equipment that weigh up to 50 pounds. Work Environment: Work is performed indoors and outdoors in various weather and temperature conditions. May be subjected to excessive dampness or chill, close quarters, uneven walking surfaces, working on ladders or scaffolding. Must work alone or in cooperation and coordination with others. Many work sites are hot, dirty, dusty, greasy, poorly lit, cramped and with unpleasant orders. Occasionally, the incumbent will be required to work in the vicinity of asbestos containing materials. The incumbent will be required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment as necessary to accomplish assigned tasks in a safe manner.

Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
