This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

Resolves pharmacy/medication issues with other members of the healthcare team, Veterans and external customers. Trains developmental pharmacy technicians and students. Dispenses medication or sterile products following all regulations, policies and procedures to ensure safe medication distribution Reads and interprets prescriptions from the veterans integrated software technology architecture (VistA), ScriptPro, computerized patient record keeping system (CPRS) or in written format. Prepares medications and ensures the orderable item matches the item being dispensed with regard to drug, strength, quantity or appropriate supply item. Reviews prescription orders for technical accuracy. Uses ScriptPro and ScriptTalk to batch and label medications. Assists with inventory processes that include inventory counts, medication ordering, stocking, checking for outdates, pulling outdates, pulling recalled medication and med room inspections. Dispenses medications using ScriptPro automation. Interprets CPRS patient medication profiles. Confirms prescription information in the VISTA or VISTA Imaging packages. Accurately enters or updates patient information in ScriptPro, CPRS or VISTA. Participates in procurement activities, inventory management, narcotic dispensing, mental health programs, secure messaging, overnight mail, partial fills, window dispensing, administrative reports, prescription review, incident reports. Prioritizes workload to complete assignments on time. Understands complex phone systems, CPRS, VISTA, and ScriptPro. Maintains appropriate phone etiquette and professionalism. Accurately collects and clarifies patient information. Alerts pharmacists or Supervisor of problems, concerns or issues immediately. Communicates information accurately in CPRS or other formats. Completes calls and as needed follows up in a timely manner. Fills medication "to be mailed" in accordance with the medication distribution section. Ensures prescription label matches mailing label for accuracy. Transports mail containers to pickup destinations, restock supplies, lift mail bags or containers. Assists with other medication distribution activities. Maintains a rolling inventory in Pyxis every 72 hours per VA guidelines. Runs ScriptPro reports. Verifies inventory with VA Logistics Officer and accurately stocks Pyxis. Ensures access to CS vault are limited to the appropriate staff. Matches hardcopy prescriptions to prescription labels according to current federal and state requirements. Monitors prescription orders for dispensing accuracy and communicates potential problems to supervisor. Performs Pyxis and ScriptPro equipment maintenance. Cleans the CS area or other areas to limit contamination. Assists the pharmacist with problem solving, patient care, or medication issues. Assists in quality improvement projects to improve pharmacy service. Completes required pharmacy reporting obligations. Maintains pharmacy security to include the physical security of the pharmacy and electronic records. Complies with pharmacy SOPs and policy for general operations and inspections. Complies with waste streams guild lines for returned medications and medications to be destroyed. Work Schedule: M-F 8:00-4:30pm, Rotating night, weekends and holidays. Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency. Pharmacy Technician candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English to be appointed as authorized by 38 U.S.C. § 7403(f) Education or Experience. (1) None required. (2) For all grade levels and positions that accept both education and experience to qualify, equivalent combinations of qualifying education and experience that total at least 100% are qualifying. The combined percentage is determined by adding total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level to the education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level Certification. For positions above the full performance level, the employee must pass a national certification exam and hold an active national certification through either: (1) Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB), Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) OR National Health career Association (NHA), Certified Pharmacy Technician (ExCPT) Grade Determinations: GS-07 Experience.Candidates must possess one year of experience at the GS-06 level. Pharmacy technicians at the full performance level may fill orders, dispense/deliver medications using automated systems or provide technical customer service to Veterans related to prescription needs. Duties will include delivery of medications to floors/patients, filling medications for the pharmacist to review, checking for expired medications, answering phones with appropriate disposition, preparing sterile products (when applicable) and assisting with basic inventory management such as putting up stock and identifying when medications need to be ordered. Certification. For positions above the full performance level, the employee must pass a national certification exam and hold an active national certification through either: (a) PTCB as a CPhT. OR (b) NHA as a ExCPT. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs). In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs: Knowledge of pharmacy technician principles, practices, concepts and theories providing for sound independent work. Knowledge of the computerized prescription process and input of prescriptions and medication orders or electronic equivalent. Ability to resolve pharmacy/medication issues with other members of the healthcare team, Veterans and external customers. Ability to train developmental pharmacy technicians and students. Ability to dispense medication or sterile products following all regulations, policies and procedures to ensure safe medication distribution. Ability to troubleshoot automated dispensing equipment (ADE) or technology platforms/databases Preferred Experience: One year experience.
