The position is located in the Behavioral Health Department of Elko Service Unit, Elko, Nevada. The Peer Support Technician position will be under Social Work Service on a multidisciplinary team supporting engagement in Mental Health Services. Peer Technicians perform a variety of therapeutic and supportive tasks that assist patients in articulating their goals of recovery, learning and practicing new skills and modeling effective coping techniques.

Duties

Serves as a recovery agent and navigator by providing and advocating any effective recovery based services that will aid the patients in daily living. Peer Support Technician participates in the service, training, consultative and other professional activities of psychosocial rehabilitation and functions as a full member of the multidisciplinary team supporting engagement in Mental Health care and other needed services. Works with tribal members to develop and implement a personal recovery plan. Utilize recovery tools such as the Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) to assist tribal members in creating their own individual wellness and recovery plans.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-0102-06:Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Assisting team members, physicians and other professional/non-professional personnel in the Behavioral Health program; Performing a variety tasks that can include assisting Tribal member patients in articulating goals for their recovery, learning and practicing new skills, helping to monitor their progress, assisting in treatment, modeling effective coping techniques and self-help strategies based on the Apprentice's own recovery experience, and providing support in advocating for themselves to obtain effective services. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-0102-07:Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Serving as a recovery agent by providing and advocating for any effective recovery-based services that will aid in daily living; orient tribal members new to the programs about the services, hours, locations, staff and other pertinent information necessary; Assist in articulating personal goals for recovery through the use of one-to-one and group sessions; work with tribal members in developing and implementing personal recovery plan; Assist in determining the steps he/she needs to take in order to achieve goals and self-directed recovery and utilize recovery tools to assist in creating individual wellness and recovery plans. OR; Must have successfully completed 1 year (18 semester hours) of graduate education that is directly related to the work of the position. OR; Have a combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage equals at least 100 percent to qualify for this GS-07 grade level. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
