About the Position: This position serves as the Deputy to the Commandant, US Field Artillery School (USAFAS), Fort Sill, OK. The incumbent will coordinate and integrate activities with FCOE directorates, Training Brigades, the ADA Commandant's office, and the Field Artillery Historian.

Duties

Serves as the Deputy to the Commandant, US Field Artillery School (USAFAS) coordinating and integrating the activities of the Field Artillery Commandant’s staff with FCOE directorates, cont. Training Brigades, the Army Targeting Center (ATC), the Field Artillery Proponent Office (FAPO), and the Field Artillery Historian to meet the Field Artillery Commandant’s strategic goals and objectives. Serves as the Commandant’s direct liaison to the Directorate of Training and Development (DOTD) and the Capabilities Development and Integration Directorate (CDID) cont. for Field Artillery systems, capabilities, doctrine, force structure, and institutional functions. Serves as the Commandant’s principle advisor for institutional training, Program of Instruction (POI) review, and USAFAS standard achievement. Oversees the quality assurance and quality control of all USAFAS activities. Responsible for strategic and long-range planning and programming for USAFAS. Formulate and revise plans, programs, policies and procedures for the execution of the FA branch vision IAW TRADOC and Army guidelines. Serves as the Commandant’s expert and advisor on the One Army School System (OASS); Structure Manning Decision Review (SMDR); Army Training Requirements and Resource System (ATRRS); Training Aids, Devices, cont. Simulators, and Simulations (TADSS); Training Requirements Analysis System (TRAS); Training Resources Arbitration Panel (TRAP); Training Support Packages (TSP) and acquisition management oversight. Provide leadership, professional guidance, decisions, advice, and assistance on military and civilian personnel management matters. Represent the Field Artillery Commandant at conferences, meetings, and working groups both internal and external to the Fires Center of Excellence.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET security clearance.
  • Incumbent must file an OGE Form 450, Executive Branch Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, as required by the U.S. Office of Government Ethics.
  • Incumbent must be willing to travel on short notice and up to 30% of duty time.
  • Incumbent must comply with internal control responsibilities in accordance with AR 11-2. Implement prescribed internal controls and supplement them when necessary to accommodate local operating conditions cont.
  • Complete internal control checklists for all functional areas within an established timeframes and report results. Establish and meet plans for correcting material weaknesses or refer weaknesses to higher levels for correction.
  • Incumbent is required to submit a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450, (5CFR Part 2634, Subpart I Confidential Financial Disclosure Reports)

OR Combination of education and experience - courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described above. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes coordinating Field Artillery (FA) training activities, and reviewing, developing and/or planning FA training policies and procedures; developing long-range and/or strategic FA training plans and programs; conducting briefings and managing complex staff actions across multi-functional, organization, command, agency, or governmental lines; performing supervisory duties and resolving military and civilian personnel management matters; and Possessing expert knowledge in integration and delivery of lethal and non-lethal fires and experience working in a joint environment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-14).
