About the Position: Works as an Ammunition Handler in assisting units with drawing ammunition and explosive items from the Ammunition Supply Point (ASP) and delivers items to training ranges. Handles ammunition and explosives IAW established regulations and policies.
Duties
Identify and inspect live ammunition for dents, loose primers, cracks, proper installation of safety features (clips, pins), alteration non-conductive to the manufacturer’s original design, and proper packing and component configuration.
Assist units with preparing live and ammunition residue turn-in documentation and assists units with turn-in of non-expended ammunition and explosives and residue to the ASP.
Operate gasoline or diesel powered cargo vehicles, to include tractor and semi-trailer unit, to transport ammunition, explosives, special weapons and their components on the military installation and occasionally over public highways.
Operates fork lift to lift and move loads weighing less than 10,000 pounds.
Completes maintenance service records and fills out driver's accident report in case of accident.
Perform actions required to obtain a dispatch for assigned vehicle in accordance with established rules and regulations.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has been designated “Mission Essential”. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- This position requires the employee must obtain and maintain the Commercial Driver’s License(CDL) “C “ within 6 months with airbrakes and HAZMAT endorsement.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
- This position is a Testing Drug Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing as a condition of employment. Incumbent must sign a DA Form 5019-R and be subject to periodic/random drug testing as required by AR-600-85.
- This position is exposed to hazardous chemicals and fumes from spills and/or leaks and incumbent may be required to wear protective clothing (e.g., rubber boots, coveralls, goggles, aprons, gloves, respirator, etc.).
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination to ensure the required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- The Lautenberg Act is applicable for this position. Must be able to pass a Criminal History Background Check. Candidates under consideration will be required to certify whether they have ever been convicted of such an offense.
- False or fraudulent information provided by candidates is criminally punishable by fine or imprisonment, per Title 18 USC 922(g)(91).
- Incumbent will be required to obtain and maintain a fork lift driver's license once on board.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an AMMUNITION HANDLER (FLO/MVO) without more than normal supervision. I work under normal supervision of a work leader of journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical efforts - Work requires reaching, bending, turning, pulling, standing and walking. There is frequent lifting, pushing and pulling of items weighing up to 20 pounds and occasional lifting of weights up to 50 pounds.
Working conditions - Incumbent works in motor pools, ammunition supply points/igloos, ranges and training areas, and enclosed cab of vehicle. There is exposure to all types of weather conditions and all types of traffic where there is a possibility of serious accident. The operator is subject to cuts, bruises and broken bones as a result of accident or when loading and unloading vehicles. Work assignments involve a thorough knowledge of hazardous material handling, and related activities. Incumbent is required to successfully complete a variety of hazardous material classes.
