About the Position: This position serves as the Medical Records Technician located at the Naval Hospital Pensacola. This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB)

Duties

Reviews and analyzes Service Treatment and Non-Service Treatment Records and Employee Medical Folders to verify that all components of the record are present and complete. Utilizing electronic medical records systems via internet, scans, saves and inserts viable medical documentation into the national electronic medical record database(s) Researches and locates missing records by tracking movement through an automated paper record tracking system. Verifies patient identification using the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System and verifies eligibility for care at a military medical treatment facility Conducts research of medical records (paper copy or electronic) for specific medical documentation and extracts pertinent information relating to injuries, diseases, operations and complete medical histories. Screens, assembles, manifests and archives Service Treatment Records upon separation of active-duty members.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • One year trial/probationary period may be required
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position has mandatory seasonal Influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal Influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • Lifting up to 80 pounds may be required
  • BLS is preferred but not required. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. General Experience: One year of general experience is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates my ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled such as:1) utilizing automated systems such as EHR electronic health record system to register patients; 2) reviewing and/or verifying patient's information to determine accuracy; 3) ensuring patient information is maintained in accordance with HIPPA guidance. OR Education: Two years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of by 60. Add the two percentages.
