You will serve as a Fuel Distribution Mechanic Leader in the Fuel Department of NAVSUP FLC SD GF.

Duties

You will pass on instructions received from supervisory staff and get the work started; works alongside employees and sets the pace; demonstrate proper work methods in craft areas. You will maintain the petroleum terminal in Point Loma, including both fuel distribution systems and base utilizes by providing oversight of fuel facility maintenance, training, and technical guidance to other operations. You will perform lock out/tag out procedures of valves and systems to prevent inadvertent fuel movements during maintenance actions. You will designate applicable personnel to conduct the petroleum oil and lubricant (POL) system alignments based on operational and customer priorities and make periodic checks and repairs of POL systems for leaks and other safety discrepancies. You will conduct visual pre-inspection set-up, change over, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting of all fuel related equipment, pipelines, tanks, and other equipment.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: I have the ability to and have performed the majority of the Fuel Distribution System Mechanic Leader tasks on my own initiative including leading a group of civilian and military employees to perform tasks such as: maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing pumps, compressors, generators, piping, valves, tanks, and other associated mechanical or electro mechanical components; Demonstrating an understanding of safety and procedures for handling hazardous substances, petroleum, oil, and lubricant (POL) distribution operating procedures, pressurized systems, and electrical safety (Lock out tag out); Manually gauging fuel storage tanks for product levels and reading tank gauging systems to tank gauging charts to compute quantities received; Documenting maintenance actions and coordinating schedules for work on components; Communicating effectively with supervisors, teammates, and third party contractors.
