This position is located in the Division of Nursing Services, Branch of General Surgery at the Gallup Indian Medical Center (GIMC), Gallup, NM. The Nurse (Endoscropy) is a specialty practice area in which nurses and associates provides care to patients with gastrointestinal problems that are undergoing diagnostic or therapeutic treatment and/or procedures.
Duties

This position is primarily for the Endoscopy room. This section consists of Pre-procedure teaching/ counseling, patient assessment and monitoring before, during and after the endoscopic procedure and post procedure teaching/counseling.
Analyzes the assessment data to determine nursing diagnoses on which interventions are based. Nursing diagnoses and risk factors are confirmed with the patient, significant other and health care providers, when possible. Diagnoses and risk factors are documented and used to determine expected outcomes and a plan of care.
Administers therapeutic measures as prescribed by the physician to include, but not limited to medication administration, IV fluids and treatments, maintains those measures taken which are ongoing in nature.
Operates and monitors specialized equipment including but not limited to cardiac monitors, defibrillators, pulse oximeters, IVACs, etc. Maintains proper operation of all equipment used.
Plans, organizes, directs and reviews work specific to endoscopy. Orients new personnel to Endoscopy and Conscious Sedation. Provides continuing learning opportunities for nursing staff to maintain competency in Endoscopy procedures, conscious sedation and operation and maintenance of specialized equipment.

Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing. A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education , Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
Experience: The work experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. At the GS-09 and above grade level, many positions may require experience in a specialty area of nursing.
Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Basic Requirements for the GS-9 (or equivalent) Grade Level
In addition to the above requirements, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
Possession of a master's degree in professional nursing; or
At least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level or above) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program.
In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below-
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-10: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Developing, implementing and evaluating a plan of care for assigned patients. Monitoring and interpreting results for not only general nursing equipment but also specialized equipment found in the Endoscopy Unit, sterilization equipment, video equipment and EKG machines.
You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
