The incumbent performs work in support of the unit's hydrology program, with responsibility to assist in the performance of a variety of hydrology tasks. This announcement may be used to fill positions with a seasonal work schedule where full-time work is guaranteed for 18 pay periods and when not working, you will be placed in non-pay/non-duty status. Duties

The responsibilities listed below are at the full performance level GS-07. Perform hydrologic technician work in support of professionals engaged in scientific studies of surface water, meteorology, sediment and debris production, and water quality for water resource and land management planning and design. Helping to implement the management of aquatic resources. Collecting and processing information for stream restoration, fish passage, stream inventory, stream productivity, stream function, physical characteristics, and habitat improvement or rehabilitation projects. Providing support in watershed restoration planning, watershed protection, and stream restoration within the framework of multi-use management. Participating in stream condition and habitat surveys using a variety of data collection techniques, including the use of electronic field equipment, such as tablets, flow meters, and GPS devices. Install and maintain the district hydrologic instrumentation; repair, calibrate, and service gages and recorders; perform all maintenance necessary to insure optimal operation of all equipment. Prepare precipitation, sedimentation, and reservoir operation reports for transmittals to higher authority and other agencies. Prepare correspondence relating to the request for or transmittal of hydrologic data, or any other matters relating to the district's instrumentation programs. Compile and analyze hydrologic data for use in studies or reports, and furnish data to district elements and outside agencies. Contact and confer with Federal, State, and local agencies to exchange data and coordinate stream gaging and rainfall data collection. Make sketches of locations, dimensions, layouts, and modifications; coordinate with design personnel and applicable agencies.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the eligibility and qualifications requirements as defined below by the closing date of the announcement. For more information on the qualifications for this position, visit the Office of Personnel Management's General Schedule Qualification Standards. If using education to qualify at the GS-07 level, college transcripts must be provided. Specialized Experience Requirement: For the GS-06 Level: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent private sector experience. Specialized experience is defined as one or more of the following: Computed mean daily gage heights from water stage record charts, edited record tapes, and made corrections based on field observation notes; Prepared maps showing well elevations and depth to water, hydrographs, profiles, and well locations; Installed, adjusted, inspected, and serviced crest-stage indicators, well-recorders, and other instruments for the collection of ground and surface water data; AND/OR Checked gage settings to ensure continuing accuracy of the records obtained from instruments. There is no substitution of education for the GS-06. For the GS-07 Level: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent private sector experience. Specialized experience is defined as two or more of the following: Performed hydrologic technician work such as preparing, analyzing, charting, annotating forms, and completing hydrographs; Assisted in the performance of a variety of hydrology tasks such as conducting, monitoring, coordinating, and controlling various phases of data collection and analysis projects or operations; AND/OR Used topographic maps and construction plans to determine watershed drainage boundaries, flow paths, elevation area relationships, stream channel cross-sections, and basin hydrologic parameters. -OR- One full year (18 semester/27 quarter hours) of successfully completed graduate level coursework that is directly related to the work of the position (such as engineering, industrial technology, construction drafting, surveying, physical science, biology, or mathematics; -OR- Combinations of graduate level education that is directly related to the position and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
