As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for the management of the engineering technical authority for independently validating the programmatic mission performance requirements are satisfied resulting in certification as well as lead a team of highly skilled System and Subsystem Managers across multiple centers in all areas of engineering analysis and operational technical decision-making in support of the Certification of Flight Readiness for the Commercial Crew Program (CCP).

Duties

Evaluates and certifies all ground related hardware/software and/or Launch Vehicle hardware/software that affect crew safety, mission risk, and flight readiness as it pertains to CCP’s Launch Vehicle or Ground Mission Operations (GMO) requirements. Provides insight regarding the commercial providers’ compliance to NASA standards and requirements, and technical expertise in the formulation of engineering policies and procedures. Integrates large multi-center technical teams, of government and commercial partners from a diverse set of engineering disciplines who make critical decisions that affect flight safety. Collaborates with the CCP Spacecraft, Launch Vehicle/Ground and Mission Operations, and Integrated Performance Lead Engineers on integrated technical issues and flight readiness. Provides direct support to the Commercial Crew Program Chief Engineer. Interacts directly with the Commercial Crew Program Manager, and high-ranking officials internally, and externally, to NASA. Determines the disposition and provides recommendations to the Engineering Review Board on critical risk acceptance for flight readiness and crew safety. Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Education Requirement (in the Education section below), to qualify for this position you must meet the requirements below and have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above. NASA utilizes OPM-approved qualification and rating requirements specific for Aerospace Technology (AST) positions which recognizes NASA's unique aerospace work. The specific qualifications and minimum education requirements are further described below and within the education section of the job announcement. To qualify at the GS-15 level, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level: Evaluating spaceflight hardware and flight vehicle interfaces regarding design, development, integration, test, evaluation, and/or improvement to determine requirements compliance; Managing or supporting a diverse team in the assessment of complex multisystem certifications, modifications/upgrades, and/or non-conformances; Developing risk assessment, management, and mitigation to advise senior colleagues and program officials on risk acceptance and/or sound flight rationale. Education

Basic Education Requirement: You must have successfully completed a bachelor's degree with a major in one of the following:

a) Engineering from a college or university that has ABET accredited engineering programs
b) Physical Science, Mathematics, Life Science or other field of Science
c) Computer Science that included 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours of course work in any combination of mathematics, statistics and computer science with at least half of those hours in mathematics and statistics courses that included differential and integral calculus; and that provided an in-depth knowledge of theoretical and practical applications of computer science, including digital computer system architecture and system software organization, the representation and transformation of information structures, and the theoretical models for such representations and transformations.

If you did not complete a qualifying bachelor's degree, you may be eligible if you have obtained a graduate degree in an AST qualifying field, as listed above.

Degrees in engineering technology are not considered qualifying for this position.
