The Power Systems Branch is looking for someone with unique technical and programmatic skills to join their team as a Senior Power Systems Engineer specializing in space flight applications for Power Avionics Electrical Systems development. The work involves architecture, leading teams in hardware development, oversight, and demonstration of leading-edge technology for unique Power Avionics Electrical Systems solutions, supporting all facets of space-borne, landed crafts and instruments.

Duties

Plans, coordinates, and provides technical direction for engineering efforts and teams engaged in development of space flight Power Avionics Electrical Systems, including the design, analysis, and trades of High Voltage subsystems. Plans and evaluates space flight Power Avionics Electrical Systems for projects, programs, proposals, mission studies, and research/development; presents technology management solutions based on risk, scientific application, cost, and schedule. Directs the planning, specification, manufacturing, and procurement of unique and leading-edge technology for the development of space flight Power Avionics Electrical Systems and High Voltage power subsystems. Serves as a technical expert and lead engineer in planning and implementing specialized Power Avionics Electrical Systems for space flight applications based upon corresponding risk, scientific application, cost, and schedule. Evaluates design requirements, trades and limitations of space flight Power Avionics Electrical Systems and High Voltage subsystems based on available systems mission parameters. Reviews, advises, and conducts technical analysis and development studies in support of major Science programs and technology driven requirements. Oversees contractor activities and acts as a technical specialist and/or Contracting Officer Representative in space flight Power Avionics Electrical Systems development and similar Internal Research and Developments (IRAD). Participates as Electrical Power Systems Subject Matter Expert at internal, agency, national or international teams or reviews for programs, projects, anomaly investigation, failure review boards, technical assessments, and mission support. Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Education Requirement (in the Education section below), to qualify for this position you must meet the requirements below. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. NASA utilizes OPM-approved qualification and rating requirements specific for Aerospace Technology (AST) positions which recognizes NASA's unique aerospace work. The specific qualifications and minimum education requirements are further described below and within the education section of the job announcement. To qualify for GS-15, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level: Leading a multidisciplinary development team or technology projects that include creating specifications, statement of work, requirements, trades, drawings, analysis, evaluations, and testing for space flight Power Avionics Electrical Systems and High Voltage subsystems development; Performing project management for the project's life-cycle including the cost, evaluation, and schedule control of space flight Power Avionics Electrical Systems development and custom Ground Support Equipment for specialized performance evaluation of in and out-of-house space flight High Voltage Power Electronics; Performing laboratory research, troubleshooting, and resolving manufacturing issues of space flight Power Avionics Electrical Systems including the development of specialized test equipment with the ability to investigate, resolve problems, and test to provide long term reliability in the High Voltage subsystem area and achieve mission requirements. Education

Basic Education Requirement: You must have successfully completed a bachelor's degree with a major in one of the following:
a) Engineering from a college or university that has ABET accredited engineering programs
b) Physical Science, Mathematics, Life Science or other field of Science
c) Computer Science that included 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours of course work in any combination of mathematics, statistics and computer science with at least half of those hours in mathematics and statistics courses that included differential and integral calculus; and that provided an in-depth knowledge of theoretical and practical applications of computer science, including digital computer system architecture and system software organization, the representation and transformation of information structures, and the theoretical models for such representations and transformations.

If you did not complete a qualifying bachelor's degree, you may be eligible if you have obtained a graduate degree in an AST qualifying field, as listed above.

Degrees in engineering technology are not considered qualifying for this position.
