The Clinical Nurse Educator/ PBRNR Program Coordinator reports to the Nurse Manager of the Office of Professional Development. The Nurse Educator is responsible for development, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of the nursing education programs. Nurse Educator will develop, provide education, and training to increase the knowledge/skills for the nursing service, and the nurse residency program. Nurse Educator will assess, plan, implement, and evaluates the educational needs for RN..

The Nurse Manager functions independently and practice is based on conscious and deliberate planning utilizing critical thinking skills. The Nurse Manager focus is on individual growth and development in practice with increased levels of self-direction and limited critical thinking skills. Provides educational instruction and training for nursing staffing clinical and outpatient units. The Nurse Manager understands instructional design, implementation, and application related to education and training.
Other duties include but are not limited to:
Works collaboratively consulting with Chiefs, Nurse Managers/Supervisors, Medical Directors, and organizational Leadership to assess, develop, implement, and evaluate educational programs for staff, maintain and enhance clinical competence, and manage ongoing education and competency programs.
Assists with the orientation of new employees, evaluation of their progress in the orientation process, and development and implementation of a learning plan for improving identified deficiencies.
Serves as a trainer and consultant for Resuscitation Education Initiative (Redi) Program including certification as Basic Life Support (BLS) instructor and/or Advanced Life Support (ALS) Instructor.
Collaborates with interdisciplinary team to support and evaluate responses to emergency responses in the facility to include BLS and ALS. Organizes, participates, and evaluates mock codes.
Supports nurse residency programs including the development of curriculum utilizing strategic learning methodologies such as simulation, lecture case studies and virtual reality.
Develops entry level coaching and mentoring skills.
Systematically evaluates current practice, formulate outcomes for groups of patients and/or organizational processes within area of expertise.
Reviews current nursing literature for new trends and changes based on evidence-based research with the ability to propose practice and documentation revisions based on evaluation of outcomes.
Collaborates with leadership and unit managers to identify educational training needs for staff, while supporting activities that foster competence, critical thinking skills, and decision making.
Demonstrates consistent and timely effective communication skills and displays exemplary professional behaviors.
Serves as a role model and clinical leader demonstrating excellence in practice, serves as a clinical mentor/preceptor for clinical and administrative staff, consults and collaborates in patient care and research, and educates in both formal and informal situations.
The Nurse Manager demonstrates leadership in delivering and improving holistic care through collaborative strategies with others.
Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating educational activities including but not limited to unit orientation, just-in-time training, nursing- related new computer applications, and continuing education.
Collaborates with other Clinical Nurse Educators and interprofessional healthcare teams in the ongoing clinical education activities including in services, training, competency assessment, and evaluations of both current and new staff nursing skills.

Qualifications
THIS IS A DETAIL POSITION, NTE 120 DAYS - To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/20/2024.
Basic Requirements:
English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7403(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English.
Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE); OR Individuals attending a master's level bridge program in nursing who have completed coursework equivalent to a bachelor's level degree in Nursing may have opportunity to become registered as a nurse with a state licensing board prior to completion of the bridge program. Upon achievement of a State license, the individual may be appointed on temporary basis and later converted to a permanent appointment upon successful completion and graduation from the bridge program. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6); OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active, and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing to warrant an appointment as a Nurse who has completed an associated degree/entry level Nursing education program. Credit for foreign nursing education higher that associate degree/entry level requires a formal degree equivalency validation from a recognized equivalency evaluation accepted by VA such as International Consultants of Delaware (ICD).
Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) Exception: Candidates who otherwise meet the basic education requirements, but do not possess the required licensure, may be appointed at the entry step of the grade and level applicable to the completed nursing education as a GNT on a 120-day temporary appointment while actively pursuing licensure (may be extended up to two years on a case-by-case-basis.)
NOTE: Grandfathering Provision - All persons currently employed in VHA in 0610 series and performing the duties as described in the qualification standard on the effective date of the standard (1/29/2024) are considered to have met all qualification requirements for the grade held including positive education and licensure/certification.

Experience with EKG/ECG cardiac monitoring/interpretation preferred

Relevant specialty certification ( as recognized by ONS) preferred
Expereince with development, presenting, workshops, orientation, skils fair, compentencies, RN Residency curriculum, and ongoing Nursing Education experience preferred
Recent charge nurse/unit facilitator experiences (within the last 2-3 years preferred
Recent/current direct patient care experience (Within the past 2-3 years) preferred
Experience with Research as a member of IRB, Research Committee, and conducting Evidences Based Practice Projects preferred

Physical Requirements: Incumbent must possess the mental and physical ability to satisfactorily perform the duties of the proposed assignment. The nurse is required to meet the physical demands of standards as outlined in VA Directive and VA Handbook 5019. This position may require potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling, and pushing. Transferring patients and objects may be required. Must complete annual Employee Health as a condition of employment.
