The Air Conditioning Mechanic Supervisor is assigned to the (VAWNYHS) Buffalo Medical facility in Buffalo, New York. Serves as the primary technical expert and is responsible for the repair, modification, installation, and maintenance of a wide variety of utility systems and equipment throughout the Medical Center.

Duties

Major duties and responsibilities include: Responsible for the development, implementation and management of an effective and reliable maintenance program for the Buffalo Medical Center. Ensures timely completion and reporting of maintenance activities. Responsible for day-to-day, month to month, and long-term planning and organization of all work for the assigned technicians. Plans the use of subordinate workers, equipment, facilities, materials and tools based on the short and long-term planning needs of department. Sets up and schedules both short and long-term projects to include major and minor equipment repair and replacements. Responsible for planning and performance of both simple and complex shutdowns that may involve all departments in the facility. Establishes deadlines, priorities, and work sequences, and plans work assignments based on general work schedules, methods, and policies set by higher level supervisors. Determines the number and types of workers needed to accomplish specific projects. Develops and promulgates all standard operating procedures for the shop. Develops and institutes preventive maintenance procedures for new equipment and systems. Responsible for all work and documentation to insure the facility section under his/her direction follow all regulatory agencies, including but not limited to JC, NFPA, National Fire Protection Agency, OSHA and all life safety standards. Creates and presents reports as required by the department and various regulatory agencies. Plans, directs, schedules, and supervises work performed by the HVAC&R staff based on priorities, patient safety, and regulatory compliance. Reviews construction project drawings and scopes prepared by the facility project section. Uses computer applications and software programs to expedite and organize the repairs, maintenance and operations of all equipment and systems in his/her area of responsibility. Responsible for assuring contracted services under their work area are completed in accordance with contracts set forth, and is responsible for being the Contracting Officer Representative (COR) for such projects or contracts in the work area. Reviews work and develops and implements methods to improve production and work performance reports, and finds methods to increase work quality. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENT: The position requires a current Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approved CFC Universal Certification. This is in accordance with Section 608 of the Clean Air Act. In accordance with 40 CFR Part 82, Subpart F, EPA, you must have and maintain proper EPA Certifications for working with refrigerants. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: A portion of the supervisor's work is performed in an office environment. The work may occasionally require carrying of equipment, tools and testing devices that seldom weigh over 50 pounds. Most of the work can be performed from the floor or from ladders. Occasionally, platforms and scaffolding are needed to reach fans, electrical and water lines and duct work. Required to stoop, stretch, bend, kneel and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The work is done inside. However, work may be required outdoors, may also be exposed to various weather conditions on occasion of working outdoors. May be exposed to electrical shock, cuts/abrasions, bruises, sprains/strains or the possibility of broken bones. May work in cramped areas with low overhead in dusty, greasy or smelly locations.
