The primary purpose of this position is to plan and assist in managing, and administering a comprehensive year round base sports program and the facilities used in conducting the activities comprising the program at an Air Force installation.
Duties
Plans, and administers a diverse and .comprehensive sports programs which include sports programs intramural basketball, flag football, volleyball, softball, incentive programs, tournaments, intramural, extramural, and varsity. sports, and instructional programs.
Assists in developing, implementing, monitoring and documenting a comprehensive training program to ensure an staff members possess the necessary skills and knowledge for their position.
Assist in preparing APF and NAF budgets, which include the expenditures required to conduct the sports programs (Categories A and B) and resale operations (Category C).
Assist in determining; adequacy of facilities, identifies additional needs and recommends facility construction/alterations and renovation projects and monitors repair and maintenance of existing facilities and equipment.
Plans and coordinates all aspects of recurring and non-recurring activities, special events and joint military and civilian community undertakings to make maximum use of facilities, services, and other resources.

- Incumbent is subject to work an uncommon tour of duty to meet program requirements including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Requires the operation of personal or government vehicles. A valid driver's license is required.
- A Bachelor's degree is desired in a fitness, sports, or recreation related field, IAW SA-2020-25.
- Must complete all mandatory training IAW AFI 34-266, Air Force Fitness and Sports Programs.
- Position requires pre-employment physical examination.
Qualifications
This is an Obligated position which an employee has return rights. Upon the employee's return, incumbent could be subject to reassignment.
This is a Temporary Promotion position NTE 01-DEC-2025, the individual selected for this position may be extended without further competition. This Position is ONLY open to current AF employees at the 316 FORCE SUPPORT SQUADRON at ANDREWS AFB, MD.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-05, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes physical education that provided the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) to perform successfully the duties of the position, knowledge of physical fitness programs which include knowledge of exercise science, strength conditions, nutrition, weight loss/ control, cardiovascular endurance, and exercise prescription of anatomy, physiology, and kinesiology as related to exercise and physical fitness; and assessment principles and procedures and exercise testing equipment and of fitness industry trends, market analysis, and customer needs.

EDUCATION: Successfully completed one full academic year of graduate-level education with a major study in physical education OR have a bachelor's degree in physical education or a subject area related to the position and claiming Superior Academic Achievement. COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts.
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-05 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-07 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Knowledge of a wide range of the principles, concepts, and techniques of sports programs including knowledge of exercise science, strength conditioning, nutrition, weight loss/control, cardiovascular endurance, and exercise prescription; of anatomy, physiology and kinesiology as related to exercise and physical fitness; assessment principles and procedures, exercise testing equipment. and physical and psychological factors of individual and team sports.
Knowledge of program and facilities management, safety, fire, and environmental regulations, practices, and procedures, as well as facility design and equipment selection and purchase.
Skill in teaching and communicating effectively with others both orally and in writing to promote and report on the program, and to resolve problems and answer questions relating to the program.
Skill in preparing budgets, program evaluations, and facility administration; managing financial and physical resources of fitness and sports programs; and in effectively organizing and utilizing available resources within the program framework.
Ability to perform and conduct training on performing individual health risk appraisals, comprehensive fitness assessments, and proper exercise techniques for cardiovascular and resistance equipment.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
