The incumbent serves as a carpenter. They demonstrate the ability to independently plan, layout, and complete job assignments in a timely matter and assemble, construct, install, modify, create, repair, or remove interior and exterior items around the facility.
Duties
DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
Plans and lays out work independently, with little to no supervision.
Determines and uses the correct methods, equipment, and materials to complete job assignments at the journeyman level.
Works using equipment such as drill press, router, belt sander, bench grinder, glass cutting rack, hammers, screwdrivers, framing square, code key cutting machine, electric MITRE saw, table saw, and other tools and devices used for functioning and operational purposes.
Assembles, constructs, installs, modifies, repairs, and removes interior and exterior items, including walls, windows, ceilings, floors, fences, furniture, roofs, doors, door hardware, door frames, desks, signs, countertops, cabinets, cornices, blinds, stairs, shades, handrails, platforms, linen carts, laundry baskets, concrete forms, washroom accessories, awnings, screens, baseball bleachers, toilet partitions, metal shelving, pictures, mirrors, wall, and ceiling mounted equipment, etc.
Completes preventive maintenance and establishes/adheres to inspection intervals and procedures.
Uses professional judgment to choose, interpret, or adapt available guidelines to specific issues or subjects.
Establishes and maintains records on all repairs and materials attributable to the maintenance and repair shop.
Cleans and maintains shop equipment and worksite.
Maintains and operates carpenter and locksmith trade tools and equipment.
Maintains key records and cuts keys from codes.
Completes and attends all VA training and certifications required to perform the duties of the job.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm. Work schedule subject to change based on agency needs.

Physical Requirements: Extended standing, grasping, bending, stooping, crouching, balancing and walking. Continuous muscular effort is required while performing these duties and due to the nature of the work, considerable exertion and fatigue is experienced. Incumbent works from platforms, ladders and ground level. He/she often lifts and carries items weighing more than 50 pounds.
