This position is located in the Branch of the Health Information Management Department of the Red Lake Service Unit, in the Bemidji Area, MN. The primary purpose of this position is to perform a variety of medical records coding, and other medical records functions.
This position is being updated to include this position is eligible for Remote Work.
Duties
Codes diagnosis, operations, and procedures from the medical record.
Make complete and accurate selection of the principal diagnosis, procedure, and operation.
Provide education and coding updates to staff on coding rules, regulations, and guidelines.
Review, analyze, and perform technical evaluation of medical record for compliance and requirements.
Ensures that the final diagnosis reflects accurately the care and treatment rendered.
Qualifications

You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
GS-5- 1 year specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-4 or 4 years about high school.
GS-6 1 year specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-5
GS-7 1 year specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-6
In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
GS-5 1 year specialized experience equivalent to at least a GS-4, specialized experience, Assist providers in completion of their health record documentation and assist coders; scan documents into the electronic health record; file and purge inactive charts.
GS-6 1 year specialized experience equivalent to at least a GS-5, specialized experience, Scan documents into the electronic health record; maintain paper and electronic medical records according to policy and regulations; code medical records for various medical and clinical process such as disease, illness, or injury.
GS-7 1 year specialized experience equivalent to at least a GS-6, specialized experience, Review medical records for compliance with established third party reimbursement agencies special screening criteria, inconsistencies or discrepancies; organize and check medical records for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with regulatory requirements; code complex clinical data into an automated patient management care component system; assist in providing on-going training needs as system modifications occur and coding systems change.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
