Duties
Directs response to emergency medical, fire, and Hazardous materials calls. Directs practice drills and oversees
building inspections and maintenance of equipment. Exercises supervisory authority at emergency scenes in the absence of the Fire Chief. The Deputy Chief is the liaison training officer between the NIST Fire Protection Group and Montgomery
County Fire and Rescue. The Deputy Fire Chief will assist the Fire Chief in developing and/or maintaining a comprehensive fire prevention and protection program for the NIST facility; to include meeting with stake holders of the NIST Research
Group and OSHE.

- Suitable for Federal employment
- Must meet time-in-grade/band requirements, as applicable
- Satisfactory completion of a pre-employment medical examination
- Completion of Confidential Financial Disclosure, Form OGE-450
- Designated and/or random drug testing required
- Selective Placement Factor- Certification in firefighter 2, Maryland Emergency Medical Technician -B Certification, Class B - Driver's licenses/ Equivalent, , Hazmat operations
- Bargaining Unit Position: Yes- IAFF, 66/016
Qualifications
This position requires one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 (ZA-1 at NIST) level. Specialized experience is defined as operating the Incident Command System. Experience understanding the principles, practices, and procedures pertaining to fire/hazmat protection and prevention. Experience planning, managing, and implementing a comprehensive program offire/hazmat protection and prevention. Experience performing fire emergency functions.

2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree
or
LL.B. or J.D., if relatedorcombination of education and experience.
IN ADDITION, the applicant MUST be able to meet the following selective placement factor (Screen out): Skill in providing basic life support and emergency medical care as evidenced by a valid Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems, EMT-B certificate.
To be considered for the position, applicants are required to provide the following certifications:
1. Certification in firefighter 2
2. Maryland Emergency Medical Technician -B Certification
3. Hazmat operations
4. Class B Driver's License/ Equivalent
Must attach certification at time of application to be considered for the position.
