This position is located with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, District 5-Wind River Agency in Fort Washakie, Wyoming. Position will handle operational issues in the communications center for the Agency. This is a Bargaining Unit position, for more information see USA Jobs What are bargaining units?

Duties

Operates a multi-frequency, multi-agency radio console with several paging systems, cross-frequency patching, and phone patching. Operates within a number of public safety computer networks and NCIC/NLETS. Coordinates, monitors, and assists with operations via telephone and radio between a variety of agencies and personnel. Records and maintains all radio transmissions and significant telephone situations. Determines priority of response and initiates appropriate response of law enforcement. Gather all pertinent information for the call to determine whether it requires dispatching a vehicle, vessel or aircraft. Performs general communications center duties such as filing, typing, copying, scanning, maintaining updated information, shredding of designated paper work, or providing copies of case incident reports to authorized individual or entities. Planning, organizing, coordinating, and facilitating of the technical and program work of the Dispatch Center. Provides overview and quality control of the work of the team to ensure that technical requirements and specifications are met. As shift lead and senior technical dispatcher, coaches and leads the efforts of the team.

  • Incumbent is required to operate a government motor vehicle, must possess a valid driver's license, and have a safe driving record within the 4 year period immediately preceding submittal of GSA Form 3607.
  • Drug Testing. This position is subject to both pre-employment and random drug testing as a condition of employment. Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test is received.

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: (OPM Operating Manual, Qualification Standards). GS-06 GRADE LEVEL: 1 year of specialized experience that equipped me with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. This experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service as described in the vacancy announcement performing ALL of the following: serving as a senior operator to receive and transmit law enforcement communications on a radio network; navigating the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database; and maintaining records of radio transmissions, police actions, complaints and reports. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Merit Promotion candidates must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the announcement closing date. Preference in filling vacancies is given to qualified Indian candidates in accordance with the Indian Preference Act of 1934 (title 25, USC Section 472). Additional selections may be made from this announcement if identical vacancies occur in the same location within 90 days from the closing date.
