About the Position: Serves as a Patient Safety Manager and Infection Preventionist performing duties in support of the Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) and its geographic area of responsibility. This position is located with the Lyster Army Medical Center, Fort Novosel.

Duties
Provide education for Patient Safety and Infection Prevention Programs to include coordination of patient safety and infection prevention training for all personnel at the MTF.
Maintain program requirements/validation criteria for the facility's patient safety program.
Prepare and reviews aggregate trend analyses, identifies trends and makes recommendations for improvement.
Implement, manage, and evaluate Patient Safety Program.
Define, implement, and monitor the process to receive and centrally manage patient safety reports from clinical and administrative staff, patients, and/or visitors.
Provide expertise and guidance to staff members in the areas of risk assessment, proactive risk analysis, aggregate analysis, root cause analysis, and development and evaluation of action plans.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
- A one-year probationary period is required if the selectee has not previously met this requirement.
- Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.

Basic Requirement for Patient Safety Manager and Infection Preventionist:
Degree: Bachelor's or graduate (or higher level) degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which include managing Patient Safety Reports, implementing Patient Safety Programs, and guiding staff members in the areas of risk management. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
OR
Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
