This natural resource specialist reports to the natural resource lead in the northeast region (IR1) and has a duty station in Shepherdstown, West Virginia or Narragansett, RI. The purpose of this position is to serve as the senior principal advisor and project manager for grassland restoration work across all three of the eastern regions. Shepherdstown, West Virginia Salary range - $117,962 - $153,354 Narragansett, RI Salary range - $116,820 - $151,870

Duties

As a Natural Resource Specialist, GS-0401-13 with the National Park Service (NPS), your duties will include, but are not limited to: Oversee landscape-level restoration: Develop, conduct compliance, coordinate, and implement restoration work at over 30 parks across three regions. Monitor results and make changes, when needed, in coordination with all partners Embed all work in science: Ensure all restoration techniques are embedded in science, and then altered based on local considerations (e.g., soil, cultural landscape, tribal concerns). When needed, develop new techniques, monitor results, and share in published literature. Conduct all grant-writing, budgeting, and reporting for multi-million-dollar project. Oversee all other administrative requirements. Represent project for over 30 parks across three regions: Outreach and communications will be extensive and involve internal communications to partners as well as external communications to the public, Congress, and members of the scientific and restoration community. Oversee IPM, IPMT, and One Health: Implement the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program and the Invasive Plan Management Team (IPMT) for the northeast region, and implement with One Health program for all three eastern regions as a part of the grassland restoration program.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-12/16/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 for each federal position listed as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of qualifying experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. Failure to adequately provide information needed to determine number of hours worked in each position may result in that time not being credited when evaluating qualifying experience. For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement as the service dates will be reflected. In order to qualify for this position, you must meet one of the following basic requirements: A bachelor's or higher degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR Combination of education and experience. Courses must be equivalent to a major, as shown in above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting one of the above requirements, you must also possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the federal service providing technical planning and support for resource management, recreation and public education programs which includes: water resource management; land use planning; natural, cultural and recreational resource assessments; development of alternative resource management strategies; river conservation issues; executing the preparation of professionally acceptable planning and/or compliance documents. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
